To live in Dominican Republic:)
Hi everybody,

I would like to experience other cultrure and country. So i would like to live some time in DR, maybe 1 year or so. Does anyone know how I can do that? I mean, maybe there is something intersting I can do, like participate in some programme or something like that. I dont want to settle down there and dont want to have commitments (But who knows, maybe I will fall in love and decisde to stay there! But Im not thinking about it at the moment), I just want to see how life is going on there.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you!!!

Visit www.DR1.com, and post on their message board. They can help you alot more than the people on this forum can.

As long as you bring enough money to support yourself, speak enough Spanish, know the right people and as long as you leave your foreigner mentality as soon as you get there, you will be ok.

About the "maybe I will fall in love" mentality, throw it out the window if you are not staying longer than 1 year.

You will have your share of guys wanting to be with you, especially those who looooove foreighers: Sankies.

Screw that
If you have money you will be fine.
Don't adjust to them. If you have moeny they will gladly adjust to you.

It is the D.R. after all. Not the U.S.

Yeah, I guess you know alot about the DR. NOOOT!.

The Dominican Republic will not, nor will it ever, adapt to anybody.

Yes, there are Dominicans who are impressed by foreigners but there are a bunch who are not and actually don't want to be around them.

No matter how much money you have, you will always find someone who will tell you "I'll get there to fix your ac in 1 hour" and end-up showing up 9 hours later.

I've seen millionaires pack their bags and leave because they couldn't make it and I've seen people with little money make it.

The DR is not a fast-paced country, not made for everyone.

A much different monster than what people see while on vacation.

Right.

That is why Baseball is the National Sport.
The Hard Rock Cafe is the place to go for Music.
The Biggest Pizza place is Pizza Hut.

Shall I go on?

The national sport of the Dominican Republic is cockfighting my friend, and the best place for Pizza in DR is Pizzarelli. Cheers!
