RE: Boom in Santo Domingo!!!
I share the same fears as others... while i like seeing progress... i just can't imagine that all the nessessary precautions are being taken with all these building going up so quickly. Can you even imagine a major earthquake??? How many of these building are up to any sort of earthquake code.? My parents live on the 12 floor of 20 floor building, they have 2 elevators but only have one stair case!!!! imagine a fire in the stair case on the second floor and the power goes out!!!! everyone on floors 2 - 20 would be toast.

I checked the site and those apartments are very nice. How many people in the DR do you think can afford an apartment that starts at US$ 365,100.00?

you think that the entire D.R is almost poor and can't even afford a US$ 365,100.00!!! .. off course there's many Dominicans that have the money, thousands and i know hundreds of them, so maybe 20 or 50% of them can at least buy one! .. plus all the foreign rish people who love to live or pass there summer in D.R!

Mr.Dom,

Now these two pictures look great without any doubts. I love them and I want you to keep posting them because I am all for the improvements and developments. At least DR has that much high regards and in mind for DR. I mean looking at those pictures, someone might even think that they are in some place like in the USA, Europe or Asia given how beautifully developed it looks on maps and pictures. I take pride in looking at them, seriously I do. Thus honestly, my criticisms do not aim or directed to tarnish in any envious ways the constructive aspects of those progress. Oh no, not at all my friends; believe me. However, correct me if I am wrong...

Simply I am sure it would cost way less to create great Social services & programs that can help the impoverished poor in DR for at least a bare minimum of 20 years for the price it actually cost to build simply one very single High Rise or to build small modern communities and small subsidies housing projects to rid DR of many Batey shanty towns they manage to never show you on TV and pictures unless you physically take a trip there yourself to see. You would think with all those known revenues and apparent skills DR possesses that at least rebuilding the infrastructures of these little degraded areas of the Country with competent renovations programs or build new small towns, villages on new lands or in areas that are not yet inhabited. One would assume that it would be on the very top of the DR government's agenda which truth be told that projects like this would definitely take way less time or money unlike it would cost for those major construction projects such as the Metro and other developments in Santo Domingo or in any other areas where they are taking place which believe it or not I gave props to but which I am also sure, seeing and granted to see the major source of gross income profit the DR government is profiting for each High & Mid Rises they allow new developers and foreigners to easily be able to embark into in DR.

Do not get me wrong, with all these known notions and monetary certainties, I expect a lot more from DR. It is easy to have a COuntry look good which I support greatly and have it being the Utopia of the Caribbean, but it is also totally another when with all that great building of new developments and foreign investments that the people are still living bellow poverty means to survive that is not consistent and justified to for the very little the government actually invest in the people due to the much amount of money the Government is raking in per the constructions of each and every individual Tall rises projects.

P.S: People, it is not about knocking down those progress and understand that it is a shame that with all this money and means, that DR still have that much of many people not being able to even afford small shanty shacks in the most impoverish slums of the many small Bateys which we all know exists there in DR. With all the money and taxes collected daily by DR on importation and shipments for materials to build those structures, tourism and trade plus remittence money sent to DR by Dominican families and money from all other successful foreign investments made or invested into the Country by the millions and at times billions.

My question is and I please beg for an adequate explanation for an answer. How come the DR government still cannot find ways to provide adequate electricity 24/7 among other services or programs to the citizens?
