Russia's state run United Aircraft Corporation has announced a new plan to become a global player in civil aviation, starting production in 2020. Following the success of the short range Sukhoi Superjet, UAC says it now intends to design and build a long range aircraft. This would be in direct competition with planes from Boeing and Airbus. http://rt.com/business/news/russia-maks-avia-salon/ http://www.sukhoi.org/eng/planes/projects/ssj100/ New regional jets could enhance flights within the Caribbean. And if they could dump a few hundred more dollars into aviation safety, the craft may actually reach the destination. This will require a major shuffle in the government there, though. S. Don't get it...why are these planes going to be landing in the DR any time soon? We are talking about the year 2020 before they even start production. Are we not tooting the horns a little too quick? You never know what to expect with those Russians. Were they not going to build an Auto plant in the DR? That was about 10+ years ago and there is no sign of any ground breaking.........And you know What? its never gonna happen.......I just hope those planes eventually take off........ In the mean time I will just hitch a ride with Curios on his light sport aircraft, that will do just find in the mean time. Edited on 9/21/2011 9:42 PM by guillermone. |

Russian tourists will be increasingly important. Cuba is already an important Russian tourist destination. A Dominican airline could have a versatile Russian built fleet obtained on attractive credit/lease terms. S.
