Location: Dominican Republic, vieja Santo Domingo Join date: April 2008 Member #: 594 Posts: 5142 | SUGAR PRICES COLLAPSE Over the past several months the price of sugar on the world commodity markets has fallen from about 35 cents per pound to about 24 cents per pound and of course sugar is an important export for the DR. I wonder if the major sugar companies here have been hedging their sales on the markets , ie speculating in the terms of LF , and what are the views of LF about this . Maybe he will be happy to see the DR producers continue their record profitability because of their financial astuteness on the markets or is he now happy to see no hedging and a much lower income for the Dominican companies and much lower tax for the government . To my mind he has been caught in a no win situation of his own making |
