Russia is ready to help the poorer countries of the EU.
EU confusion blocks Spanish bond buy-in

http://rt.com/news/russia-europe-crisis-aid-437/

A multi-billion-dollar investment by Moscow into Spanish bonds is feasible, as BRICS countries consider helping Europe. But Russia wants the EU to get its act together before giving the final “go”, according to presidential aide Arkady Dvorkovich.
“We are waiting for the European countries to announce a specific and comprehensible strategy to come out of the recession. If they need Russia’s aid or the help of the BRICS countries, we are ready to offer it,” Dvorkovich announced, speaking to journalists at the Millennium Development Goals forum on Monday.
However, he pointed out the existence of a clear strategy in the EU is a precondition for any help Russia may deliver.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on Sunday that a comprehensive response to the debt crisis would be finalized by the end of the month, including a detailed plan to ensure European banks have adequate capital.
The EU's current president Herman van Rompuy has delayed next week's EU summit till October 23. Accodring to van Rompuy, additional time is needed "to finalize a comprehensive strategy."
World stock markets, however, perked up on Monday after a weekend meeting of the leaders of France and Germany provided a promise of action on Europe's debt crisis. The Italian stock market was also up.
Earlier on Monday Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and former Finance Minister Aleksey Kudrin met with Elena Salgado, Spain's economy and finance minister at the Millennium Development Goals forum in Moscow. They discussed whether Russia will be involved in buying Spanish debt.
Greece meanwhile awaits the next tranche of 8 billion euros, about to be released by mid-November or the country will run out of money.

DR needs Russian railways, says ABC. i have no idea who told him that, but let´s just say he is right. i hope that if we get them, they will be better than the LADA cars that he probably feels we needed, also.i have seen Russian technology. window winders that fell off on the FIRST day of purchase. clocks that ran BACKWARDS. a 35 mm camera called a Kalimar, from which one could not extract an exposed roll of film. bring on the railways.

Lada cars had a good repution in the UK. They had a long life, tough springs and were popular with farmers. Many were exported back to the USSR second-hand.
Russia is building railways in many countries.
Zenit cameras had a good reputation.

On 9 February 2009, Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways, participated in a ceremony to mark the start of construction work on the Tabriz - Azarshahr railway line. He also took part in a conference on developing cooperation between Iranian and Russian railways, with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Transport of, Dr. H. Behbahani and the President of Iranian railways Dr. H. Ziara also in attendance.

Lada made its name in Western Europe selling the Fiat 124-based VAZ-2101 and its many derivatives as an economy car in large quantities during the 1980s, but later models were less successful.
The common Lada sedan/estate, sometimes known as the Classic in the west (Signet in Canada), was partly based on the 1966 Fiat 124 sedan, and became a successful export car. The keys to its success were: competitive price as an export, reliability, simple DIY-friendly mechanics and unpretentious functionality. Since 1980 over 13.5 million Ladas were badged as 'Rivas' (re-styled), added to 5 million made from 1969 to 1979 (badged as 2101-2107 depending on engine size/interior specs) for a total of over 18.5 million. The car was built under licence in several other countries.
Being exported worldwide in the 1980s and '90s, the Lada was a big earner of foreign hard currency for the hard-pressed Soviet Union, and was also used in barter arrangements in some countries. Over 60% of Lada production was exported, mainly to western countries (the US was the only large market not to have imported Ladas). The rugged design of the Lada Classic, built with heavier-gauge steel bodywork to cope with extreme Siberian climates, poor roads, and few service facilities in many parts of Russia, made high usage, such as 300,000 miles (480,000 km) possible under less extreme operating conditions. Because of their very competitive pricing and ease of service, Ladas became common as police cars, taxis, and a range of public service and civil defence vehicles in many parts of Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.

For years I have heard LADAS just like the FIAT (Fix It Again Tony) were crappy cars. I have Cuban friends who would not give up their 1950's US made Chevy for a brand new Russian made car. So this is a surprise for me to hear that LADA is worth a damn.

Lada Classic - great on poor roads/tracks.

Exported all round the World.

Unlike US cars of that era very little rust problem.

Lada Classic is due to get replaced by the Lada Granta.

Excellent car for developing countries.

Now i know you are just an idiot spewing any silly anti-American idea that pops into your head

The Fiat group suffered significantly in the 70's due to being forced by the Socialist, Italian government to buy and use Soviet made steel. All Fiat group cars were the most rust prone cars. I even own a Fiat that I parked for a year while out of the country. When I returned I had found that the engine had dropped out of my Spyder because the Chassis where the motor-mounts were connected had rust through......THE CHASSIS.

They didn't have rust problems because in crappy countries they don't salt the roads! Live anywhere in the northern US and if you don't wash your vehicle enough during the winter, it will rust any brand!
