S -- There are no words to describe GOP opposition to the American Jobs Act. No, literally: there are no words. House Republicans won’t bring the President’s jobs plan to a vote. GOP presidential candidates barely mentioned it in their debate last night. And Senate Republicans? Senate Republicans refused to even allow a debate yesterday on the American Jobs Act, which could create up to 1.9 million new jobs. 1.9 million new jobs, rejected by Republicans without even a debate. Stand up today and tell Republicans we want a vote on the American Jobs Act! Republicans didn’t just vote against the American Jobs Act – they blocked the Senate from even beginning debate on it. Opposing 1.9 million new jobs is outrageous enough, but why are Republicans so afraid to defend their obstructionism in open debate? Letter written to me by Democrats official campaign. In democracies it is not possible to block debate - it is a characteristic of dictatorships. DR is quite right to assume US is no longer a friend always and look to other nations in the international community. 15 million children living million in poverty many hungry through lack of jobs. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/US/hunger-children-america-slow-steady-starvation/story?id=14328390 S. Ron Paul or whovever should put forward their proposals for jobs and debate in the senate. Ron Paul wants to abolish the minimum wage for example. http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Ron_Paul_Jobs.htm My point is that without debate its dictatorship. Some might say you create jobs by installing solar panels on every roof in the USA; others create jobs by abolishing the minimum wage so you can buy a hamberger for 50 cents. S. |

US politics reminds one of a contest between rival dicators - neither side being prepared to debate and find solutions. Each dictatorate is in the pay of big money and owes allegience to their sponsors in ever more expensive elections. S. |

Gringo informs us that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed rammed through the health care bill, WITHOUT DEBATE. well, gringo, i am a slow guy, so, please, bring the full weight of your intellect to bear upon this passage, and explain it to us mere mortals The House voted 219 to 212 to approve the measure, with every Republican voting no. The measure now awaits President Obama's signature. In remarks Sunday night, he said that the vote "proved that we are still capable of doing big things. We proved that this government -- a government of the people and by the people -- still works for the people." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her colleagues erupted in cheers and hugs as the votes were counted, while Republicans who had fought the Democratic efforts on health-care reform for more than a year appeared despondent. "Today we have the opportunity to complete the great unfinished business of our society and pass health insurance reform for all Americans as a right, not a privilege," Pelosi said before the House approved the bill, which first passed the Senate on Christmas Eve. The debate has consumed Obama's first year in office, with his focus on the issue amid a deep recession and crippling job losses potentially endangering his reelection prospects and Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate. It has inflamed the partisanship that Obama pledged to tame when he campaigned for the White House and has limited Congress's ability to pass any other major legislation, at least until after the midterm elections in November. |
