Character ---- and lack of it. Personality patterns




Character is a personality pattern. A large number of traits
and tendencies tend to occur together in a pattern that we call
character. Lack of character is also a personality pattern.
Again, a number of traits and tendencies tend to occur together
in a pattern that we call lack of character. Why certain
traits and tendencies tend to occur together and form patterns
is an interesting question. One reason is probably that
certain traits and tendencies tend to reinforce each other.
Another reason is probably that certain traits and tendencies
all have a common cause. There is some basic element in the
person's makeup that is causing them. At any rate these
patterns do occur and often very strongly and distinctly. What
are the traits and tendencies that tend to occur together in
the pattern that we call character? What are the traits and
tendencies that tend to occur in the pattern that we call lack
of character?

I am not sure that I agree with that definition of character especially if it is defined only by the examples shown .
If I am asked about a persons character , I may say he is quiet , hardworking and a trifle boring , or I may say that he has a boisterous character and gushes on occasions when first introduced to women.
The difference between personality and character is very blurred, in my opinion.
A person with no character is normally thought of being of weak moral fibre and a person with no personality is thought of as being dull ...that is the best distinction I can make between the two words

Traits and tendencies often found in the personality pattern that we call character listed in the article is so far off base that it forces one to wonder what the author agenda was.

A person who is messy cannot be Trustworthy? I have seen many a person who perseveres yet has little or no common sense. Just look at the OWS crowd.
Honesty equals fairness? How?
The Idea that a Sense of honor equal carefulness just shows that the author has either no idea what Honor is or is one of those who despises the idea of honor.

The list goes on and on with ridiculous assertions.

A guy once told me that personality is God given or if your an atheist something your born with. Charecter is what you are behind closed doors.
