the Dominican Republic is the 108th easiest country to do business in.
They have dropped 2 places from last years rank.

140th in the ease of starting a business(Dropping 2 places) and dropped 7 spots in dealing in construction permits.

Resolving Insolvency came in at a scarey 154. This is great for people who owe money but disasterous for those left holding the bill.

For me the most important ranking is "Registering Property" as no market can flourish as long as property rights are not respected. and the D.R. comes in at a disappointing 105th

True AC. DR has many still pending issues like "Registering Property" and enforcement of laws, Tax Evasion, etc., that unless fixed and made to work correctly will not allow for the hoped for expansion and modernization of the Republic. Simply put, DR has a lot of catching up to do. Getting its property registration system fixed, ID Cedulas, Tax-evasion and Fiscal discipline in order will greatly advance DR's modernization. But it's hard moving against entrenched interests and long established corrupt pipe-lines of patronage. Hopefully, the changes underway will cement a new Era in DR.

dropping 7 places is scary. however, what is even more scary is the mechanism by which you drop. when you drop 7 places, because the people below you leapfrog you, then you have a problem. that means that they are improving, while you are stuck in inertia.

What is really Scary is that none of our Resident Dominicans have posted here to address the issue.

Here we have an independent agency like the World Bank displaying why the economy in the D.R. is in such a morass and yet nobody with coin in the game has stepped up with their opinion.

It may be an advantage in today's World ecconomy not to make business too easy. Tends to give native organisations and companies an advantage.
For example Brazil is way down on the rankings.
Russia too.
India also.

All BRIC economies.

Maybe DR should copy some of their reguations.
