Many fathers had to hide their daughters, or send them overseas, to protect them from his lust and advances." All I've heard is anecdotes concerning this. If that's the case then the victims should be legion and many shouldn't be hard to find. All I've come across is innuendos, never any names. Women like Lina Lovaton, who was among the most attractive women in the country bar none, where actually atracted to Trujillo for reasons other than cohersion. I don't see someone with so much money and so much clout in a society such as ours, in that place and time, having to resort to cohersion to coax females into bed. Someone with Trujillo's money and power in today's Republic would have have his choice of women regardless of their position in Dominican society. And that's today. Imaginate en esa epoca. I beg to differ........What you state is probably quite accurate considering today's deterioration of societal norms and value system but not applicable to the past. Through the last fifty years there has been a huge shift in what was considered morally acceptable, which coincides with the break down of family. Years ago in the DR as it is probably true for most of the western world, if you had a baby out of wedlock you were automatically an outcast. But today this is no longer the case, adults are having children outside of a formalized family structure and youth alike are having babies as early as middle school. And although criticized are simply accepted and preceived as an unfortunate circumstance or transitory event of life. The shame of the act has been pretty much eliminated. This is further reflected in the absence of self-reproach as evident with the ever increase in the practice of illegal activities and corruption. The mentality of today, if you can get away with it and don't get caught, keep doing it anyway. Even if it is something that you know is illegal but it makes you feel good at the time and thus turns into a vicious circle. Back then the only criminals that were allowed to practice their craft were the Trujillo's and their allies anybody else would be severely punished. The vast majority of the Dominican people during the Trujillo era, grew up in close, tightly knit family units, where there was genuine support and concern for the well being of its family members and were more likely to have well define moral values. Therefore, I don't believe women were jumping at the chance to get into bed with Trujillo because he was El Jefe and if they succumbed to his advances it was strictly due to fear, one of the strongest most powerful of human emotions. The femalesTrujillo was attracted to were generally high caliber women and if any of them went againt their value standards and principles, it was a sacrifice made to protect the integrity of their families. Nevertheless, greater were the number of women who were not willing to relent, held on to their honor and refuse give-in to the pressures of the Almighty Goat. Unfortunately, once they became a target of Trujillo's lust, all of them paid a high price either way and no matter what. If Trujillo were alive today and a women would refuse or give up the opportnity to be Trujillo's concubine, she would be considered stupid, an idiot or crazy. So let's have names..who are some of these women Trujillo coersed? People are people no matter what era. There were loose women then just like there are loose women now..and there were women that succumbed to charm and the finer things in life then as now. Again, all you supplied was innuendo. BTW I happened to have met two women in my lifetime that were concubines of Trujillo, living in different parts of the Cibao. Both were verified to be such by their neighbors..and both were his concubine willingly. Ciby: I do not like to divulge personal details about myself or my family over this public media, as I get enough death threats as it is They are many books that relate the stories of women, who were coerced into bed by Trujillo, just once and never again, to satisfy his sexual appetite. These women just like the ones that were raped, rather remain anonymous for obvious reasons. Trujillo had full time pimps, like Manuel de Moya Alonzo that worked in the presidential palace and sent scouts to girls schools to find new fresh meat, for this insatiable "abusador" to devour. One of the Mirabal sisters rejected publicly his advances, and generated his immense wrath, which culminated in the three sisters murder by garrote. His sons Ramfis and Rhadames also had the same MO and many women were conned and forced into submission, or the penalties were serious, including parental imprisonment. Many sycophants offered their daughters to Trujillo, in exchange for favors as well, and maybe a government post. FYI: The night that Trujillo was executed, he was on the way to his San Cristobal, "casa de caoba" to meet up with one of those unfortunate girls. The Mirabal sisters, at least Minerva, were evidently involved with communist cadres within the country..that doesn't condone what happened to them..but I think it's a crock that she was offed because she spurned Trujillo. Her political affiliations were what doomed her. But in any event it's always good to play devil's advocate Minerva Mirabal was just another one of the hundreds that were sexually harassed by El Jefe. Like I said, the hundreds of other one night stands will always remain silent and anonymous forever. That assertion that Minerva was involved with communist cadres, sounds like pro-Trujillo propaganda, and it really does not weigh in what we are discussing, and even if it is true, Minerva and her two other sisters, did not deserve a horrible assassination, beaten to death by Trujillo henchmen. Generoso, You state information that few Dominicans would try to counter. Yes, there were many women then and today that are enticed by power and prestige. This has Always been the case, in poor nations and in rich nations alike. What is also indisputable is that the GOAT came on to many women that were married or that did not enjoy his attention and advances. The GOAT and his henchmen targeted some of these women. Why would any of these women, if still alive, want to publicize the shame and dishonor those terrible days brought to her and her family I most definitely support and agree with this conclusion. Because I understand the mentality of the women of this generation, the generation of my parents and grand parents. And it would be exactly the same way they would have behaved and reacted faced, with a similar circumstance. Another very difficult development was that some of these women became pregnant with the GOAT'S child By chance several years ago at one of the last of my paternal uncles' birthday celebration, I had chance to meet a cousin of mine many years my senior but looking very young with plastic surgery. Her age could not detract from her earlier beauty. She must have been a stunning woman, and after seeing some youthful photos of her the image was stunningly accurate indeed. Turns out that she had been part of that group of Cibaeñas that Trujillo and his group supported for their sexual desires. She traveled and had her expenses paid for by the regime. That is not in dispute, as I've stated, there were and are MANY women drawn to powerful men; history serves as an excellent reference source for this. Yes of course. No doubt very beautiful women have always been attracted to rich and powerful men. It is like a magnet. It has always been that way throughout history. However, today it has gone mainstream, it seems like every girl wants to marry Mark Anthony or guys likes of him, eventhough he looks like a skinny frog. And there are thousands of other examples we can bring to the table. Edited on 10/27/2011 4:41 PM by guillermone. |
