The Dominican Republic is proving to be an ardent supporter of the recent bid in the United Nations to recognize a Palestinian State without first achieving peace with Israel. At the UN General Assembly in September 2011, they stood and cheered Palestinian Authority Leader Mahmoud Abbas more than any other country in North America.

It gets worse.

The President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernandez, presented Abbas with his country’s highest honor, an honorary medal known as the Sanchez Y Mella en el grado de Gran Cruz Placa de Oro prize. On October 7, he referred to a premature Palestinian State as ‘a great, just, human cause’ and pledged his country’s continued support for immediate recognition, preempting a genuine Peace Process. Abbas was declared a ‘distinguished guest’ of the Dominican Republic and was granted the right to speak in Parliament.

Tourism is the crux of the economy of the Dominican Republic. Tens of thousands of American Jews and friends of Israel visit the Dominican Republic every year. It is time for President Fernandez to know that we are paying attention and do not appreciate his country’s position on this issue.

As far as the land of Israel there has never been a nation on that land other than Israel with Jerusalem as its capital.The "Palestinians" already have Jordan and as Arabs they have the whole sourounding region.
