Man Sues Doctor for Amputating Penis in Routine Circumcision

A Kentucky man is suing a doctor for amputating his penis without consent during what was supposed to be a routine circumcision to relieve inflammation.

Philip Seaton, who is in his 60s, was in court Thursday suing Dr. John Patterson, seeking unspecified damages for compensation for the "loss of service, love and affection," according to media reports.

Seaton was having the procedure on Oct. 19, 2007, according to The Associated Press, which also reported that the lawsuit alleges Patterson removed Seaton's penis without consulting either Phillip or his wife Deborah Seaton.

An attorney for Patterson said the Louisville doctor removed Seaton's penis after finding cancer during the surgery, according to the New York Daily News.

The paper reported that the lawsuit stated that even if Patterson did find cancer during the 2007 procedure, it was a non-emergency situation - and Seaton never had a chance to consider other options.
