As pointed out in the thread we (the US) trade with other putative Communists. Different people will have different subjective ideas on the morality of this embargo but one thing is absolutely, objectively indisputable: the policy has failed to bring down Castro's regime. That is not a moral opinion, it is a historical fact.

Well I guess I am just wrong to think that giving money to a murderous dictatorship is wrong.
How silly of me.

Then why don't you denounce your country's trade with the murderous regime of Beijing with the same fanaticism that you do against the cuban regime, eh Dr. Hypocrite?

Dread. If it's true that Cuba has 20 billion barrels of oil. It will not be easy for the United States to get its hands on the oil. because Vladimir Putin has re-established strong relations with Cuba . Plus There is Cuba's debt to the ex-Soviet Union, inherited by Russia, has been previously estimated in Moscow at around $20 billion. Let's also not forget China's involvement. Obama has some very difficult challenges ahead.

yumnuk, you are correct that the geopolitical dynamics will be tricky, but do not count out the USA in any game of skullduggery; they wrote the book. besides , 20 billion is small potatoes, in the grand scheme of things

That is just a drop in the bucket of the hypocrisies of the U.S. But these idiots are so plain stupid that they dont want to accept reality. They would gladly sell their souls in exchange for Cuban Statehood to the union. Not realizing that the U.S. interest in Cuba is for exploitation of it resources and people. All the while turning a blind eye to blatan U.S. hipocracy

*Trade with China
*Trade with Vietnam
Failing to indict Orlando Bosch for terrorism for the death of approx 73 passengers
Hijacking the "Freedom of Information act".

and others.

At least the Cubans are not trashing the planet too much. The environmental footprint of their peopleis one of the lowest. People of the USA should go there and learn how to convert disused parking lots into gardens

They even have some queen conch left. They co-operate with FAO in management.

Hopefully the USA people have a balanced view of Cuba and its government.

But i also do think that Obama has studied and learned many lessons from the Clinton Admin of what to and not to do. So I really think he will hit the ground running. If you just look at his campaign strategy. He studied the past, learned from the mistakes and employed all the available resources and tools to his advantage.

RE: will Obama lift the Cuban embargo?
yet another dosage of sagacious insights from the mouse that roared. ladronaso, the USA has never opposed tyranny and injustice, nor dictators. they only opposed these conditions when they could not control the dictators. it is well documented in millions of books and essays, and needs no further examination. and the miami cubans have no beef with dictatorship; their beef is with castro. they had no problems with Batista. Gloria Estefan probably lived large when daddy was a bodyguard to Batista. now she is in miami, extolling the virtues of "democracy". give me a break!
