RE: will Obama lift the Cuban embargo?
Yes but this new Cuban generation will take time to really mature into politically motivated in all aspects of politics. Remember all politics is local and in Miami many of the political decisions and agenda are still controlled by the Old Cuban Guard. And it will be until this new generation matures. Yes many young Cubans have split from the the status quo but lest they rattle family ties.

No, but quite unique in getting mixed up in so many wars and intraventions; also creating more pollution per capita than any other country except the UAE.
US GHG is huge per capita and in absolute terms: No 1 Worldwide.

Also a military budget nine times the next highest nation.

ladronaso, You're a smart guy you just might be right. However Obama knows a new conventional wisdom may well be taking shape in the state of Florida. he's the first to have the test titular fortitude to say Bush's policy is wrong, I think it woke up many moderate Cuban Americans to come out the closet . the new generation of Cuban Americans don't always see eye to eye with their elders. many of them have moderate views. the political exiles who left Cuba after Castro's revolution triumphed in 1959 -- bringing with them a boundless hatred for Castro that was stoked by painful memories of confiscated homes and slain relatives are dying off most of natural causes. They now make up less than 10% of South Florida's residents of Cuban descent. the new generation just might give both sides a chance to negotiate With the United States and the Castro brothers. who themselves have a bucket list just like the exiles.maybe the biggest obstacle in the way of dialog is the two-headed monster of China and Russia Let's also not forget the American far right. The old exiles were the obstacle of the past decades. I am shocked and surprised that it has not occurred to anyone that 55% of Cuban-American voters under the age of 29 who supported Obama they voted for Obama because they have never experienced what their parents and grandparents have. This is the typical progression of immigrants and exiles and first and second generation Americans. the new generation of Cuban Americans may not be the obstacle of the future.

With the discovery of oil offshore of Cuba the embargo should come to an end. But then again Cuba owes companies capital. They should be paid before any real trading begins. In my opinion I think that the Castro regime would end if the embargo would be lifted, there is no doubt that the influx of money would change everything in the Cuba.

As far as dealing with none democratic countries, the United States should shed there hypocrisy.

Let’s not forget that the U.S. crated our Banana Republic issues, and dealt with the strongmen dictators that ruled us for so long.

No, the companies owe Cuba money for the years of neo-colonial exploitation and the fat profits made that they did not share with the Cuban people.

Oil in Cuba means China and Russia (which have oil agreements with Cuba) will benefit greatly. I'm sure some side drilling will occur 30 miles off the Florida shores.

RE: will Obama lift the Cuban embargo?
yumnuk, i am aware that the democrats received substantial hispanic support in florida. are you privy to the figures regarding Cuban support? i know that the puerto ricans up in daytona and tampa went heavily democratic, and the central americans in the miami dade area also. but, how did the cubans vote, can you inform me? i hope they all voted republican, enjoying their final moment in the sun. that is a malaise that has run its course; thankfully, in 8 years, the miami cuban will have become a trivia question.

Dreads In Florida 1/3 of Cubans voted for Obama, and I believe 57% Hispanics as a whole voted for Obama. BIG turnaround. hopefully if DEMs don't screw it up, the trend will continue.

The old Cuban elite is a dying breed.

In addition what were heavily Republican dominated south Florida district controlled by long time Cuban incumbent (Ross-Lehtinen) of the Republican party an estimated 20K new Hispanic voters registered but only 25% voted Rep. The other two Cuban Incumbents Mario and Lincoln Diaz also only received 25% of the additional (new)registered votes each loosing over 17000 and 20,000 vote advantage respectively in comparison from previous years.
