I don't mean to sound rude, but how is this relevant? Doesn't the population hate the armed forces? So why would they listen to them? Or is that just my distorted view?
Aruing on the internet is like playing chess with a chicken. No matter how good I am at chess; the chicken is just going to knock over all the pieces, crap all over the board and strut around like it's victorious.

No you are not rude but rather totally correct. The Dominican people historically have always had ill feelings against the military. It was relatively not long ago when the Trujillo regime ended, where our country suffered thirty-one years of a military dictatorship and the last thing we want is anything to remind us of this horrible and tragic past.

But yes true, I agree, I also found this odd, using the military to promote a fight against aids. I guess this is an ad campaign done as a public relations tactic. It appears as if the government wants to improve the image of the military, change to give the community a positive representation of the Dominican arm forces to hopefully win over support of the people.

Additionally the message they wish to convey is perhaps that in order to win the war on AIDS requires military might to get the job done. This is the only thing I can think of as the reason why. Now the question is will it work? Well, your answer is as good as mine and only time will tell.

I mean, I see it as a good thing. I am glad that government institutions such as the Ministry of the Armed Forces are taking such time, dedication, and resources to promote this cause.

In a sense it's good. The militairy making a contribution to society is one of the best moves they can make. Especially in the DR. But HIV/AIDS prevention? I think they'd gain more ground if they helped out with more visible causes.

For example the Haitian border patrol, stopping drug trafficing, making noticable contributions towards stopping corruption, maybe even use militairy construction tools to help out with major infrastructural projects.

Yes, I agree here also. It is well known that a major contributor of Aids in the DR comes from illegals which cross the border. It would be a much better, more efficient use of the military to help control and stop illegals from crossings the border who might be infected with the aids virus. In addition to travel documents, a health card should accompany a passport along with a visa. Anyone without those requirements should be deported or arrested like they do in the US.

Now that to me is the best use of the military in the prevention of the spread of aids. Anything less then that is a moot point.

Actually aids prevention is a good cause, you probably dont know but aids in the DR is kind of a big problem. i dont know what % of the population has it or what the rates of infection are but ive heard their pretty high.

but i know what you mean. The DR has no real military threats, and as a ally of the US theres very little chance the military would be needed for national security. So with the military basicly siting around doing nothing i dont know why the goverment hasnt sent atleast half the national armed forces to control the border since thats the REAL security risk and economic threat to the country. it makes no sense
