I will post more in a few. This woman is a curandera who spiritual work consists of enlisting Indian water spirits.
Be back in a few with more pics.

Anthem of the Taíno Resurgence: Naboria Daca Ae Mayanimacaná

Written by mcforte on Aug-13-08 12:54am
From: openanthropology.wordpress.com

What might be called the unofficial “anthem” of the Taíno indigenous resurgence is the beautiful, moving song by Juan Luis Guerra of the Dominican Republic, sung in the Taíno language, titled Naboria Daca Ae Mayanimacaná. The song comes from his 1992 album, Areito, which refers to Taíno dance, an album that featured a number of anti-colonial and anti-capitalist hits, earning it the distinction of being banned in several countries that were fearful of publicizing music with allegedly “anti-American” messages (just in case there was anyone left who still maintained the illusion that empire and democracy can go hand in hand).

The words (courtesy of Guacara Dreamtime) follow the song, I added the English translation in place of the Spanish translation
Lyrics

Such strong ties that last I heard the British are taking over the administration of your home islands due to rampant corruption.

Baracutei, I was wondering if you know anything about the spaniards that most mulatto/white dominicans are descended from? I have noticed that alot of the light skinned/white dominicans I see have a more distinct arab/jewish look than their Puerto Rican/Cuban counterparts.

Hello Boricua,
I mean to post more pics but Im garage cleaning at the moment!

Okay regarding your question. You are correct.
In the mtDNA tests that have been conducted some incredible findings have emerged. Let me list justa few.

(1) The majoriity of the mtdna is of African extraction (not surprising) however many people tested were actually Haitians. None-the-less they need to be counted.

(2) 18-24 percent were of Indigenous Taino extraction. But the Taino of the southern part of the island were of a different haplogroup that appears to be older than those found in the Cibao.

(3) most the the "white" mitochondria extracted was of Arabic/Semitic origen! this is an incredible find

(4) aside from the Taino which is what I was rooting for (for obvious reasons) I think the most exciting find is that of an African halpogroup that is not found anywhere aside of Africa to date and yet it is in large quantities in the DR! This is incredible if you ask me.

Back ot work for me!

Baracutei
