The song comes from his 1992 album, Areito, which refers to Taíno dance, an album that featured a number of anti-colonial and anti-capitalist hits, earning it the distinction of being banned in several countries that were fearful of publicizing music with allegedly “anti-American” messages (just in case there was anyone left who still maintained the illusion that empire and democracy can go hand in hand). The words (courtesy of Guacara Dreamtime) follow the song, I added the English translation in place of the Spanish translation Lyrics Autor: Juan Luis Guerra Canta: Juan Luis Guerra TAINO language: Naboria daca ae mayanimacaná naboria daca guaitiao mayanimacaná naboria daca eo naboria daca ae naboria daca eo a mayanimacaná naboria daca eo Calichi guarico guakía calichi guariquén machichi mayanimacaná machichi yu peiti ris Naboria daca, mayanimacaná. Traducción to Spanish (mine to English): Soy un siervo / I am a servant no me mates / don't kill me soy un siervo / I am a servant tu hermano de sangre / your brother in blood no me mates / don't kill me soy un siervo / I am a servant soy un siervo / I am a servant soy un siervo / I am a servant no me mates / don't kill me soy un siervo / I am a servant Fuente de la montaña alta / fountain of the high mountain ven a nosotros /come with us fuente de la montaña alta / fountain of the high mountain mira, ven a ver /look, come to see mi corazon /my heart no me mates /don't kill me mi corazon / my heart blanco / white negro / black rojo /red Soy un siervo, no me mates / I am a servant, don't kill me http://www.zimbio.com/INDIGENOUS+PEOPLES/articles/36/Anthem+Ta+no+Resurgence+Naboria+Daca+Ae+Mayanimacan |

I have noticed that alot of the light skinned/white dominicans I see have a more distinct arab/jewish look than their Puerto Rican/Cuban counterparts. Hello Boricua, I mean to post more pics but Im garage cleaning at the moment! Okay regarding your question. You are correct. In the mtDNA tests that have been conducted some incredible findings have emerged. Let me list justa few. (1) The majoriity of the mtdna is of African extraction (not surprising) however many people tested were actually Haitians. None-the-less they need to be counted. (2) 18-24 percent were of Indigenous Taino extraction. But the Taino of the southern part of the island were of a different haplogroup that appears to be older than those found in the Cibao. (3) most the the "white" mitochondria extracted was of Arabic/Semitic origen! this is an incredible find (4) aside from the Taino which is what I was rooting for (for obvious reasons) I think the most exciting find is that of an African halpogroup that is not found anywhere aside of Africa to date and yet it is in large quantities in the DR! This is incredible if you ask me. Back ot work for me! Baracutei |
