Thought many in the states think differently in terms of. Brotherly love . The true Taino comes out in all of us and it truly gives me a warm feeling inside. My 3 children are of both races and one has dark features and the other 2 have olive skin the bottom line is I have beautiful children because of this mix. Bottom line IS We Belong. T |

I have noticed that alot of the light skinned/white dominicans I see have a more distinct arab/jewish look than their Puerto Rican/Cuban counterparts. Hello Boricua, I mean to post more pics but Im garage cleaning at the moment! Okay regarding your question. You are correct. In the mtDNA tests that have been conducted some incredible findings have emerged. Let me list justa few. (1) The majoriity of the mtdna is of African extraction (not surprising) however many people tested were actually Haitians. None-the-less they need to be counted. (2) 18-24 percent were of Indigenous Taino extraction. But the Taino of the southern part of the island were of a different haplogroup that appears to be older than those found in the Cibao. (3) most the the "white" mitochondria extracted was of Arabic/Semitic origen! this is an incredible find (4) aside from the Taino which is what I was rooting for (for obvious reasons) I think the most exciting find is that of an African halpogroup that is not found anywhere aside of Africa to date and yet it is in large quantities in the DR! This is incredible if you ask me. Back ot work for me! Baracutei I'm sorry I meant to ask this when this was posted and these findings have been on my mind no joke since you posted it but can you provide sources of where you found this information. All of it would be nice, but I'm extremely interested in the highlighted portion as I've always wondered why I looked like a Mizrahim or Sephardim. |

Alot of Canary Islanders immigrated to the DR and I believe most Canary Islanders are heavily mixed with the indigenous Guanche people of the islands who were berbers/arabs. That could be it. That's a very likely scenario, I was just hoping he could share his sources. I've read that the Canary Islanders contributed more than just genetics also, but affected our Spanish. Not just Dominicans either, but what could be referred to as Caribbean Spanish (Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela). |

White/light skinned dominicans have a much more middle eastern look than White Cubans, Boricuas and Venezuelans. Maybe Canarians and their mixed descendants make the majority in DR while the Canarians in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Venezuela are a minority? My fault there, I meant other than their effect genetically to the Caribbean (more in R.D. than others perhaps) they influenced Caribbean Spanish for all those nations. |

Where have you read this? I only wondered because you've said two opposing things and thought perhaps you read something between the two posts. |

No, I meant his hair wasn't helixed, but "good" mixed hair. Derek Jeter's hair is not exactly like White people I see like for instance Arnold S. or Triple H.
