Any indian traits in Dominicans came thru the Spanish conquisadors who first encountered and intermixed with Indians who lived within the canary islands centuries before the Spanish arrived to the Island. Dominicans genetic background is Spanish, African Slaves, German and Jewish and all these groups combined.

This was BS put together by other Dominicans, show me an independent study conducted by Americans, not by Dominicans with a agenda. Taino indians were completely wiped out, which is why African slaves were brought in to replace them.

The Spanish never controlled the whole island in its entirety, leaving many areas where the Taino would flee too. The only Indians dying from disease were the ones living in the peripheral areas.

By the way, the study was conducted by the Japan Science and Technology Agency , not by Dominicans.

Im sorry, I usually stay away from such exchanges because I find misinformation to be disturbing if not just plain silly. The above statement is supposed to be taken as fact? if So, where is genetic proof for the statements that you have made?
Not a single DNA study that has been conducted in the DR has been done by Domincan Teams. All have been done by outsiders, such as the study that Yumnuk3 has posted as well as others done by Italians and most notably the University of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
The idea that Taino people were completely extinguished is surely an outdated belief one that multi-disciplanery studies have already proven to be false.
But I am interested in your data Mr Brasilnoiseback. Can you kindly enlightent us with the facts? Where was the study done and by whom?
The people on this thread have put forth a hypothesis that is both positive and enlightening. If there is proof to the countrary and it is not based on HIS-STorical accounts, I would love to read through this. But you have to come with facts, case studies, something tangible and nots just droping a statement rolling you eyes and saying NO.
