RE: Santo Domingo Subway.
sorry to burst your bubble, Neon Genesis, but trains do not make a country modern. what good is it when you have transportation modalities for a population which is internationally uncompetitive, because the government neglects more urgent needs, such as energy delivery and education? do you believe that we can say that we can produce consumer goods and services at acceptable standards of quality and pricing because we have an underground locomotive? nothing is going to be the same when this recession is over. the world is going through a paradigm shift, which some scholars call the 'Great Disruption'. Two years down the road, only the very best are going to be able to compete and survive. trains will not be the answer; preparation , on the other hand, will.

Pena Batlle is a hero of yours without you evening knowing it. He was an idealogue who pretty much worshipped all that was Spanish in Dominican culture and villified all that was not. He was extremely instrumental, along with Balaguer, in forming that particlar brand of hispanidad, with its anti-haitian elements, that both men dubbed "Dominicanidad". He held several posts under trujillo and died in the latter part of his regime.

Franco you probably were spelling his name wrong. That's why you're having a difficult time finding stuff on him:

http://www.redpodercomunitario.org/Calles/PenaBatlleCalle.htm

On this one go to page 24:

As Ciby already told, he would be one of your idols if you have had the luck of reading even one of his books. Speaking of which, I'd recommend you to read from him: "Historia de la cuestión fronteriza domínico-haitiana.", "El tratado de Basilea y la desnacionalización del Santo Domingo español.", "La Isla de la Tortuga" and "Las devastaciones de 1606 y 1608". Believe me, they'd give a lot of ammo to your already impressive arsenal.

LightOfTruth, Said What's wrong with being patriotic, what's wrong with being descendants of spanish people. What's wrong with being proud of our hispanic heritage. "Anti-Haitian" sentiment is not the creation of Balaguer or Trujillo, tell that to the people that were victims of the various haitian incursions of the past. Balaguer and Trujillo were nationalist's their's nothing wrong with that. "NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT CARLOS FRANCO, NOTHING WRONG WITH IT BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE!" Apparently some people will sell there souls to the devil!!!!! Link below..... http://www.cielonaranja.com/penabatlle-exaltacion.htm
