I'm sure that the policemen were not full blooded dominicans they must have some Haitian blood in them somehow for if they were truly dominicans they could not have committed such heinous crime. Like Haitians are the victims always, cause you know, police never robbed anyone that wasn't Haitian. By the way, what is a Haitian (or chinese, american, martian, white, black, red, pink..) doing with EUR 37,000 in cash? This kind of money belongs in a bank. DaniDR Living in the Paradise |

I'm pretty sure. WHERE do you live? HAVE you never heard of Trujillo? Do you not read the crime statistics for this country? THIS country ranks 6th HIGHEST in the world in the murders of WOMEN.... As much a bandit as Trujillo was, he at least built the infrastructure from which the dominican state (notwithstanding its inefficiencies) gather its current strenght. The Duvaliers (father and son), on the other hand, left Haiti in a worse state than before. Futhermore, from what I have gathered from survivors of that epoch, the Ton Ton Macoutes' death tally have nothing to envy the one racked by Trujillo's death squads, if the tales from the massacres of Jeremie and other towns of the haitian south are to be given credit (for more about the chilling deatils about these, ask antonioj, whose family is a survivor of the Macoute deshuké at Jeremie). Plus, it's an statistical fact that there have been more dead on the periods before and after Trujillo (the caudillos and Balaguer's twelve years, respectively) than during the era itself, so that should tell you something. If Trujillo wouldn't have existed, then the dominican nation would have put another tyrant in place, because at the time it elected him to power, the nation was already weary and disheartened from the lawlessness and civil wars that characterized the era before him. It was looking desperately for someone with the guts to put the regional caudillismos unleashed by the Restoration War to rest, caudillismos that, although useful and successful in the fight against the spaniard, threatened to tear the country apart if they weren't stopped in time, so it's useless to analyze Trujillo's era without studying the conditions that made his regime a reality in the first place. It's like a sore that won't heal, and you ask "should I see a doctor about this? you've had this sore for a couple of years now and it just won't get any better". There is absolutely nothing wrong with seeking professional help. Nothing. There is such a stigma surrounding the idea of it that many people feel ashamed and never seek the help the so desperately need and could benefit from. You should Ask yourself "what do I have to lose by seeking help?", and also "what do I have to gain by NOT seeking help?" You could view it as a "better safe than sorry" type of situation. But if a professional had the key to unlocking your imprisoned happiness, wouldn't you do anything necessary to obtain that key? Why ask, and why wait? I sense that you know deep down in your heart of hearts that you need some sort of professional help, but something is holding you back. It's time for you to take charge of your mental health RIGHT NOW. You still young -- you have your whole life ahead of you, a potentially beautiful, enriched life. If you take the necessary steps right now to wards maintaining a healthy mental state, you can't even imagine how much better off your future will be for it. This is about taking care of yourself -- it isn't any different than keeping an eye on any other health issue. You know what you need to do -- you need only the courage, confidence, and support to do it. Edited on 12/17/2008 5:10 PM by yumnuk3. |
