Well, I was young when I joined... I loved the military, but I did not know the TRUTH. And some one once warned me about what happened in DR but I listened to the wrong people. Plus at the time my uncle wanted me to get military training. He fought the Americans tooth and nail.
He was Jailed, Beaten, tortured and lived in fear for his life. My mom told me stories of them coming to look for him in my grandmother’s house.
He not only wanted me to join, he wanted me to join the Ranger Battalion, advanced airborne infantry all the way. But still I did not know.
Then, L. Fernandez first presidency he allows the U.S. to post soldiers in barahoena. I wanted to go so bad I thought it would be a vacation. But I asked one of my SGT. why they where protesting and he said “ah! Some BS war the Americans intervened” and then my 1st SGT, told me he was there before they sent him to Nam. Man I came home and asked my uncle. We bought La Trinchera de Honor. And it had two other videos with it, I started reading. 42,000 troops innocent Dominican lives lost, the U.S. took out a DEMOCARITLY elected president.
