RE: Bye bye George W., SEE YA!!!
Do not start the party so fast!
I am still looking for the person who tells me not what President Bush did wrong (everything for some “liberals”) but what he was supposed to do. (Can you guys wait one hundred days of the present administration --with the new Messiah-- for having an idea?).
You take a decision when you have two or more alternatives. The Middle East war was not a President Bush’s decision, there was not another option.
It is really great for the citizens of the Unites States that they can cry: “I am American” and everybody must treat them with a very special treatment (a treatment you do not get if you cry: “I am Dominican” or something like that). They are an empire (a powerful empire) and that is part of what that means but they do not want to fight for that privilege.
They perfectly know how many persons the Roman Empire lost, and the Spanish Empire, and the British Empire and the German Empire. They perfectly know how many persons the Russian Empire (well, the Soviet Union) lost. We are talking about millions but if five thousands Americans soldiers are killed in four years that is the end of the world.
The only great battles with American names are battles fought by Americans against Americans.
The problem is not Mr. Bush, the problem is a super power that really like “to lead” (Obama’s word) this world, to export democracy as they see it but it does not like to pay the price for to be seated in that throne.

PeRod:

No other ooption for the war? Need I remind you that the US went against United NAtions decision and invaded Irak along with a couple of bush groupie nations!!! Teh UN wanted more inspectors and an independent rpeort to that fact... but NO, Bush said we needed to invade pre-emptively to avoid bieng attakced by weapons of mass destruction (Doctrina Bush).. that was teh sole basis for the WAR !! Doesnt listening to the UN sound like anohter option to you??

Did they find the so called weapons of mass destruction??/ NO!! Couldnt even find firecrackers......

Alqaeda was pissed.. now they had to walk or camel ride to Irak bcs they were expecting battle where they were stationed in Afghan .. it took them months to set up in IRAk and start the insurgency.....

Anyway, as for American Battles they have teh Washingtons American Revolution , there is also the Spanish American war, which is a very galant and unselfish cause.... and they have heroic feats in WWI and WWII.. not sure where you were going with that!

Are you really serious, I wonder where are you getting your information from,(Roach Limbau)? well you are sadly mistaken. Colin Powell has spent painfull hours vainly trying to persuade President George W Bush not to invade Iraq and believes today’s conflict cannot be resolved by US forces ONLY. Coling powell took him through the consequences of going into an Arab country and becoming the occupiers.” indeed it was not a war of necessity, but a war of choice with all the blunder that follow suit".

RE: Bye bye George W., SEE YA!!!
Gentlemen, I appreciate your posts (honestly) and this is a very important topic for me. I have a jazz concert now and I have to go but remember this: the national security is an “economic” issue for United States. You can not spend ten or twenty years working in something like Silicon Valley and then see how a terrorist group (powerful and rich) destroys everything.
You can say a lot of thing about Mr. Bush, but you have to admit that all these years he kept his country safe (now we will see what happen with Mr. Obama in charge).
You can say that the Iraq war was wrong; even you can say that the Iraq war was wrong from the start but I am still waiting: What was he supposed to do?

Glimmertwin, come on!
Are you talking about the war with Spain? What about the war with Mexico? Is that what you call a “war”? Well, Israel is not “at war” with Palestine, they are killing them.
And you say that “they have heroic feats in WWI and WWII”. Do you know the numbers?

Today is not over with............until tomorrow has arrived, and a new day begins.

gatita; you are on your game today.. that is one great post. yes, it is obvious that although the task of rebuilding America will be a difficult one, we have the right man for the job. at least we know he means well, even if he makes mistakes. with Leo, we know that he is just on an ego trip and money grab, and is going to leave nothing positive as a legacy.

"You can say a lot of thing about Mr. Bush, but you have to admit that all these years he kept his country safe (now we will see what happen with Mr. Obama in charge)."

People seem to forget that 9-11 happened under bush's watch. Also, Perod, it's been thoroughly documented that we as a nation we were led into war based on lies and the CIA itself has stated that our actions in the middle east have exacerbated terrorism. bush was a failure when it came to national security. The proof is in the pudding.

RE: Bye bye George W., SEE YA!!!
Bush certainly caught more hatred than his actions merited. I do think the Iraq war was a major blunder but on the scale of imperial evils far from the worse thing a nation has done. By the last few years though he had become too mediocre to merit serious criticism. ..that's why the election season was so long.

I can't wait to see Bush's Broadway show though, "You're Welcome America. A Final Night with George W Bush". He has always been a comical guy, maybe he can make a second career of it.
