Authorities there in charge of issuing documents no longer recognise them as citizens ... even though the Constitution does. Many say it is because of the colour of their skin. In the first part of our series on race and racism in Latin America, Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman reports from the Dominican Republic. I am only posting this to Share Information, for the sake of the debate. I am not pro Haitian but very pro Dominican. But I have a question; if a United States citizen has a child in the Dominican Republic that U.S. citizen has the right to obtain U.S. citizenship for that child. My question is, how come the illegal immigrant Haitians in D.R. not doing the same for their offspring. Get them Haitian documents, any document is better then no document. Any passport is better then no passport, that why he or she can leave the island if they choose to. Yours truly Chillaxin201 Edited on 2/9/2009 1:02 AM by chillaxin201. |

BASEBALL) but the fact is their children of illegal immigrants. DR has over 1million illegal immigrants within its borders and who knows how many others there are plus their children. so idk if it would be a good idea for the countrys future to go and legalize all those illegals.. idk on some levels i agree with the measures the goverment is taking to curb illegal immigration but stories like this make me feel bad since in their eyes they are dominican. idk maybe they should take steps to legalize those BORN here and deport those that are here illegally.. but then that would break afamilys apart so either way its bad... ![]() |

The Dominican & Haitian Governments are responsible for this debacle that is called Haitian illegal migration to D.R ( insert conspiracy theory here ) And por su puesto another botched news reel full of bias and misinformed. And you call yourself Dominican? I have an idea why don't take a few of them, let's say 20, and you move them with you. So you can have Haitian-Dominican chats every evening...Who knows? You might even stop using Spanish and learn Kreyol....Move them with you...How sweet, you are such an anti-Dominican darling... |

We don't have to solve it. This is a Haitian thing, return them to Haiti and they should find their way out. Our responsibility is to the Dominican poor and by paying attention to Haitians we are neglecting our own. Edited on 2/9/2009 12:24 AM by Bonahan48. |

If we did it would encourage them to cross the border. If the United States would not deport Dominicans it would encourage Dominicans residents to do more crimes. I am not anti Haitian, just very pro Dominican. |
