Struggling with racism in the Dominican Republic 01-08-2008
One man's battle against bureaucracy in the Dominican Republic.

I am only posting this to Share Information, for the sake of the debate. I am not pro Haitian but very pro Dominican.

But I have a question; if a United States citizen has a child in the Dominican Republic that U.S. citizen has the right to obtain U.S. citizenship for that child.
My question is, how come the illegal immigrant Haitians in D.R. not doing the same for their offspring.
Get them Haitian documents, any document is better then no document. Any passport is better then no passport, that why he or she can leave the island if they choose to.
Yours truly

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.

Ok.

His parents broke the law.
He took advantaged of the fact his parents broke the law.
Why should the D.R. give him papers to continue the fraud?
Why should my country accept somebody who's paperwork is fraudulent?

Why isn't this criminal mad at his parents?
The D.R. is following the rule of THEIR LAWS!
The U.S. is following the rule of THEIR LAWS!

Why can't this person follow the rule of law?
Proof of dreadlocks Bigotry.

Chill, 3 of these types of videos in one day? We get the point.

Now I just have to ask - do you belong to one of the few families in DR that actually benefit from this type of cheap labor? If not, perhaps you'd like to make a documentary on poor Dominicans that also have no access to healthcare because they can't give anything in advance at the hospitals, or who can't get copies of their birth certificates because they can't pay the administration fees. We'd love to hear more on that.

NO, I am not one of the families that make money off of the Haitian illegal immigrants,
I only posted this was to share information. That is my sole purpose.

But one question, if I descendent Dominicans, but born in the United states can get dual citizenship. Why doesn’t he do so? Why doesn’t he leave the island with a Haitian passport? Either why, he leaves.

The problem is a legal one. He wants Dominican documentS but he's Haitian. He needs to apply for a Haitian passport, but he refuses to do so.

We have nothing to do with his problem. He must go to the Haitians authorities and clear that up.
We want him out... By leaving, he would help us diminish the Haitian presence, but then again, are we going to do by giving him our nationality? That would be unconstitutional and anti-Dominican.

He knows exactly what to do if he reallys wants to go to the USA.

AntonioJ, I did not debate Pichardo but based on our messeges you can figure out two different approaches regarding Haiti, you might not like any of them:
1. Pichardo believes that Haiti is failed state and needs to be integrated to DR. He believes that Dominican are better at governance and Haitians can provide a larger market and more labor. He proposes the end of Haiti with its subsequent integration to DR.
2. I don't care about Haiti. I want Haitians and Dominican to remain isolated and maintain their own exclusive identity. I want DR tobe more christianized, more westernized and more economically progressive. I believe that Haiti has a right to exists with not foreign intervation. Haiti should be for Haitians, DR only for Dominicans. I also want immediate mass deportation.

mass deportation of whom, Bonahan?.just Haitians, or everyone here illegally? do you have any idea how many foreigners are here illegally, and the amount of cash and assets they represent? is the government going to reimburse them , or expropriate their property? this is a slippery slope. what if the mass deportation of foreigners sends a signal to the foreign community that bad portents are in the air? do you realise what will happen to the DR with a sudden capital flight? what about the intellectual assets that will be deported? who is going to undertake some of the technical and highly specialised intellectual work? be careful what you wish for; you just might get it!

RE: Struggling with racism in the Dominican Republic 01-08-2008
chillaxin201,

Why is it 'racism', because he is Haitian (another nationality) or his skin color? If the whole situation was exactly the same, but he happened to be lighter do you feel everything would have been ok and ran smoothly? If the people doing the supposed 'racism' are of similar skin color is it racism?
If the exact thing happened in the Bahamas, would it be racism? Just curious as to why are you using the race card.
Just to make sure you understand what I'm trying to say, Dominicans see David Ortiz as a Dominican and Renee Preval as a Haitian despite any similarity in skin color. Haitian immigrants in other Caribbean islands whose population are of a different culture but more closely resemble Haitians in phenotype often get discrimanated against, deported, etc. But for some strange reason it's never labelled racism, but if the exact thing happens in DR there is always a racial emphasis put on it. Rather tiring I would say, using inflamatory words to push buttons, kind of like when I read an NGO report of Dominicans conducting 'ethnic cleansing' wth.
