I FOUND OUT THERE ARE SHIPPING COMPANIES IN N.Y. STATE THAT SHIP HERE AND INCLUDE CUSTOMS IN THEIR PRICES...EX THE 52' TV WOULD HAVE COST ME $640U.S. TO GET TO MY DOOR FROM N.Y.

I AGREE...WITH SOME OF THE CHEAPER PRODUCTS IT ISNT WORTH IT TO BUY IN FROM THE STATES AND PAY ALL THE DUTIES AND SHIPPING TO GET IT HERE....YOU COULD FIND IT FOR THE ACCUMULATED PRICE DOWN HERE,

IN MY CASE THIS T.V. COSTS OVER 130,000PESOS HERE ....SO 1300$US +650$US SHIPPING WOULD STILL BE WAY LESS THAN WHAT THEY SELL IT FOR DOWN HERE.

dreadlocks Location: United States Join date: December 2007 Member #: 4 Posts: 22481	RE: I have an apartment in Santiago with my chica, and am returning from the States Milos, i agree with you whole heartedly about bringing in certain articles. why on God's earth would you buy a tv for 1000 dollars, pay to ship it, and insure it, then pay duty and itbis, when you can buy one here for the same aggregate amount? some guys just think we cannot get anything more than than platanos in the stores here. they want to bring soap and toothbrushes, because they are "unsure about their availablity on the island". holy jeezus! you can get anything in some stores in Santo Domingo and Santiago. my buddy dines regularly on Alaskan King Crab, for heaven's sakes!

But now I, like many others have encountered a problem with them. There after sales service is zilch if something goes wrong. I returned a PS3 to them under the Sony one year guarantee, Plaza Lama issued a one year Sony guarantee on their letterhead. When I returned with it I was told by a VERY rude chica in their customer service department that there is no guarantee. Eventually I was told there is only a 3 month guarantee given by Plaza Lama. The PS3 is now at their HQ in SD waiting for the outcome. If they are selling such things w.o. the Sony licence, they know what will happen if they dont resolve my problem. Its simple, they only need to pay to have the PS3 returned to Sony in the US for either repair or replacement. Sony is a lot bigger than Plaza Lama and they protect their name fiercely. There are lots of other good reputable stores the op can purchase from. YOU'RE RIGHT...PLAZA LAMA WAS INVOLVED IN A SCAM WITH SELLING USED/BROKEN MERCHANDSE LIKE NEW. A LOT OF THEIR PRODUCTS DONT HAVE ANY SOLID TYPE OF WARRANTY IF ANY. SOME OF THE GOOD STORES DOWN HERE ACTUALLY SELL REFURBISHED PRODUCTS LIKE NEW....I GUESS THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THE STICKER ON THE BOXES MEAN. IVE SEEN STORES WITH PRODUCTS THAT WHERE RETURNED ..PUT THEM BACK ON THE FLOOR AGAIN TO SELL.
