RE: What's up with DT?
Gizmo, i do not know what to make of your post, if anything at all. as i said to you before, check the threads to see who started the insults. i have many philosophical differences with Manhattanite on substantive issues, but we have never exchanged an angry word. i tussle with generoso, at times, but the most we exchange is personal messages, and phone calls. the same goes for Mr Lautaro, cibaeno, josean, JD, Baldoria, FrankThe Tank, yumnuk, snoopyy, Glimmertwin, Glomarexplorer, Arsenio Lembert, Devin, just to name a few. i have my fights with GC, but the big difference is that, at the end of the day, he has an intellect, and makes positive , educative ,comments. (when he feels so disposed) as vitriolic as Carlos Franco can be, he can be very lucid, and we can discuss matters rationally. but, as you will see, i am no shrinking violet. some guys ignore insults, but i will not. i will not ignore the kind of person who refers to people as "nappy hair". that speaks to a character deficiency, and abysmal ignorance. the same respect you prescribe for me, how about asking it from him? instead, you join forces with a person who trashes the very people who made it possible to live a decent life in america. maybe the problem is that you agree with him, which makes you two peas in a pod.

cibaeno, i have no doubt that you can educate me on that issue, and i wish you would. are there peopleof the phenotype you describe driving cabs and styling hair, or are they living the life of the more privileged? that is the point i am making.i have lived on and off in the DR for more than 20 years, and i have never seen a bunch of kids that are "indistinguishable from europeans" walking around with limpiabota equipment.

and Gizmo, you attacked me with unexpected vitriol , simply for suggesting that the DR look toward import substitution, and reduce its dependency on foreign inputs. that, my friend, is an expression of concern, not a put down. in case you are unaware, the current account deficit is expanding exponentially every year. that is caused by excessive foreign currency outflow. do you believe that Papa John just allows you to use their name and ingredients because you write them a polite letter of request? do you believe that the orientals would be where they are if they simply allowed everybody else to set up shop in their country, displacing local entrepreneurs by strength of cash? how many chinese heads do you count when you go into McDonalds in the USA? i know, you can get Big Macs and starbucks in Beijing, but the USA owes chinese sovereign wealth funds over a trillion dollars, not the other way around. so, before you allow some personal dispositions to cloud your judgement, inclining you to attack people, understand the gravamen and intent of the post. if you find self reliance offensive, you cause me to wonder.

RE: What's up with DT?
surely you are correct, cibaeno, but i would suspect that such phenomena are the exceptions, rather than the rule. my exposure to the really wealthy areas of the country reveal and undeniable interface between wealth and eurocentric features. i am not saying that all the whites are rich, but, by and large, the majority of cab drivers and barbers do not look like prima.

You'll find cibaeños such as those I described in all walks of life here, even within my own family. I have a relative who looks like Drago from the Rocky movies who's been driving a cab for years (I have a funny story concerning him and immigration but maybe another day) and my mom has an older cousin with eyes so blue and hair so blond that in her prime she would've made the staunchest supporter of the Aryan Brotherhood blush who's been running her own salon for decades. I have nordic looking relatives that have done quite well for themselves indeed and are millionaires in dollars today and others that are broker than broke after being here for years. Like I said, they can be found in all walks of life.

But in far less numbers. What you do find is very small pockets far and between.

Heck, even with Rubi you have had handshakes, at least when he's not high on his medications. Does that mean that you'll make peace with AnthonyC? LOL
