Boycott the Dominican Republic
Do you think that if the Dominicans in exile would run a campaign to have the tourist industry boycotted maybe we could force an end to the corruption. Lost revenue would make the president change his current view failed view of corruption.
If Dominican out side the DR would tell their friends co workers etc, not to go to Dr that might change a lot of what is going on in DR right now.

I read articles on how the Indonesians protested and blocked run ways to stop the tourism industry there, we can protest and do something similar.

I am in no way telling Dominicans not to send money to DR or to stop flying to DR but to stop utilizing the resorts. We had a Dominican republic before the resorts and we will after.
Take it from the Cubans, they try to detour people tourism there they even commit acts of tourism to t

This is easier then an armed conflict, which could lead to another American Invasion, this is simply crippling the economy.

There are several places that None Dominicans can go to vacation. Boycotting DR would strike where the president is concern the most “investors and taxes”.

RE: Boycott the Dominican Republic
No I think each individual Dominican cares too much about their own family to cut them off from any financial help they can send over. If the Dominicans in DR want to mimic the actions in Thailand late last year it should be up to them. The Thais had a very specific political goal when they shut down their airports though, to eject a specific leader. This political tactic probably would not work against for a broad and vague goal like stopping corruption.

My young Padawan, the force is not strong enough to defeat the almighty Syph and the corrupt empire. Unless you are ready to form a rebellion take to the hills and seek Master Yoda.

So, you don't like what's happening in DR....

I don't mean that we should not visit family or not send money; this is more towards the Tourism industry.

The government will realize the Dominican public has a means of hurting the elites in the country. Remember that economic sanctions are just as harmful, as a directed attack.

Rebellion forming is not as easy as you think it is, first you need the public in on the invasion/ rebellion and then you need men and woman willing to kill and die for the cause. Ladronaso, it is not that easy to train so many people. Even in the rebellion of 1965 the majority of the people had no military training. This caused several mistakes and fatalities.

“The Thais had a very specific political goal when they shut down their airports though, to eject a specific leader.”

This is very true, Manhattenite…. goal is to end this blatant corruption.

Have you noticed that Cubans try to detour tourism to the island of Cuba.
Should we not try the same it’s not like the average Dominican makes tons of money off tourism anyway.

So once we tell people not to go to DR because it's too corrupt, how do we get them to go back once corruption is over??? this smear campaign could and would actually backfire

We have all the tools we need to end corruption, this plan is unworkable... plus we need dollars to keep buying oil from venezuela

PS am off to Rio for carnival

Chillaxin201 can you name the resorts that don't allow Dominican nationals or descendants to enjoy or spend money in them? Will wait patiently for you're response...

RE: Boycott the Dominican Republic
The corruption is DR is a lot deeper than just having a protest or huelga to make the government change their ways. The corruption starts with the police on the street. When I lived down there I didn't trust them as far as I could throw them. These military people are greedy and for the right price will look the other way.

I have no idea what the solution would be. I haven't been down there in 7 years and I keep hearing all these horror stories about kidnappings and people being mugged in broad daylight. Its very sad.
