Looking for info on family of Gen. General Manuel Ramón Montes Arache
SEEKING INFO ON FAMILY OF General Manuel Ramón Montes Arache

Hello everyone,

I live in Canada and would like to find any current information on this family. They lived in Canada's capital, Ottawa, for about a year in the mid-60's, which is where I met them. I went to the same school as their children: Manuel (a) Manolito, Normita, Vilma, and Ivette Grinilda was just a baby back then, around 1 or 2 years of age. The strange thing was that their eldest child Normita and I were born on exactly the same day and the same year -- February 11th. She would be 56 years old today and the other children would probably be between their mid-40's to mid-50's. They were such a great family and they welcomed me to their home and offered their friendship to me. They even taught me a little bit of Spanish, and I taught them some French & English. The General was very fluent in English at the time. I never forgot them and I would love to get back in touch with some of them again, especially Normita.

Sadly, I read that their mother Norma passed away in 2006. She was such a beautiful woman back then and she was very kind-hearted as well. I read that after they left Ottawa, they moved to the Netherlands and lived in exile there. Mrs. Montes Arache eventually divorced her husband & moved back to the Dominican Republic. However, I have no idea what happened to the rest of the family.

Does anyone know if the General is still alive and if so, whereabouts he is living these days? Would love to find out where his children live now, if they are married and if so, what are their married names (for the girls)?

Any help you could provide will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Lucie

Yes, that's exactly the one I'm referring to. Shortly after that event in 1965, he moved to Canada with his family for about a year or so, and that's where I got to know his family, especially his elder daughter Normita.

Arache isnt a common name so it probably wont be that difficult. You can try this link and once there try different permutations or perhaps even try calling these people and investigating if they have any connection to the person you are looking for. Its a good possibility she may be listed as most Dominicans do not share the same privacy concerns as North Americans.

Lucie;
The general is alive and well and retired living in the Las Praderas section of town.
I know that at least one of his sons is active in the armed forces.
I might have old contact info but I can not give it out without his authorization.
You can contact the retired armed forces chapter (Hermandad de Pensionados, Marina de Guerra) and
give them your contact information and ask him to contact you.

I just called my dad and you are correct, my father's best friend (and brother and sister godfather) is alive and well.

Dad is from the old school so he was a little hesitant in giving information when I told him someone on a site was looking for him, but said that whomever wants to get in touch with Mr. Montes Arache, all they need to do is contact La Marina De Guerra in Santo Domingo.
