Just this week I was discussing the same with an associate. My statement were that a very long time ago in a place far far away I was a listener of rush and listening to him now reminds me of how stupid immature and ignorant I was and how far I've come. And as you said listening to him speak validates my sanity.

I also think that as much as I repudiate GC incendiary comments I've learned to filter him out and thus I think DT should have exercised the same technique. Temporarily restricting his account or user name would probably have been more effective and served as a good self policing tool.
