Here are two Haitian pages I have found. http://www.radiotambou.com and http://www.everythingHaitian.com I do not know if they are any good; but I hope some of you on here will do check it out.

Can i ask you what's your agenda here?

I mean we both Dominicans and Haitians do not want truce, nor peace or even reconcilliation. Instead what we always have is often someone denigrating the other, denying crimes are taken place based on racial tenures and discrimation and due to past resented history that both nations have experienced as an island. I was merelty facilitating this everlasting stupified stupidity with new means horizons.

RE: The Disgusting Haitian Elite
I am happy for this opportunity to address comments directly to Bob Corbett whose name is signed at the bottom of many negative emails exchanged on the subject of Haiti on the net.

I would like to propose the idea that the most repugnant elite qualifier be extended to US financial geniuses and CEO's who have exploded the Global Economy for their own gain. Please take the time to read this article if interested: http://caribbeanwriter.blogspot.com/

I wonder why in the analysis of the reasons leading and maintaining the current political and economical situation in Haiti there is no mention of the role of the US, long-time heavy in Haiti politics. For the past 25 years Haitians have been marching to the tune of DEMOCRACY brought in US, OAS and UN suitcases. Certainly they have some insight after influencing decisions for the past 25 years, imposing their vision and flexing their weight of their economical and military might. What has been constructed in this time? What progress has the population made? Why was the country doing much better with dictatorship with minimal outside intervention?

There is no doubt Haitians bear guilt for the fate of their country; does the US plan a mea culpa for the economic havoc globalisation is wreaking on world economies?

The best article written recently to truly expose all sides to the Haiti drama is: http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/columns/html/20090404T220000-0500_148822_OBS_THE_AUDACITY_OF_HOPELESSNESS_.asp

Gizmo I read the last link THE AUDACITY OF HOPELESSNESS lakiskeyana, do you believe in everything written on that article? The simple question that i would ask the person that wrote the article is how can you blame everything on external forces when the country in question is constantly overthrowing there own goverments through brutal military dictatorships. How can you blame external forces when you're country has civil wars because of racial prejudice. How can you blame external forces when goverments assume power and steal all the moneys and monopolize the economy to enrich themselves and there immediate administration in power etc etc. The only redeeming attribute in such article is the role of foreign interests in Haiti being overawed to the point where the Haitian goverment is so inept in agreeing with everything put on the table, for the satisfaction of a few rich businessmen in Haiti and from abroad. But some of the article is subject to scrutiny, or have some historical nuances that have nothing to do with the present conditions of Haiti today.

Gizmo,

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Mine happens to be that there are both external and internal forces to explain Haiti's present situation.

I find it more useful to understand the systems and institutions that affect situations, because people come and go. In fact, this "elite" so harshly criticized is quite recent in Haiti.

Differently from the DR where the elite have members still present in today's society that have belonged to the richest families for several centuries, in Haiti the present wealthy bear names not present in Haitian society 100 years ago, Mews, Brandt, Acra, Apaid, Baussan, Braun.
Daniel Supplice's book on Haitian patronymes explains this very clearly.

Finally to answer your first question, I never believe EVERYTHING I read in any article...

Gizmo I concur with you're belief that there's both internal and external blame to the dire situation in Haiti, but the reality is that most blame is internal for too long Haitians have been victimized by there own leaders.

RE: The Disgusting Haitian Elite
As if corrupt leaders of this nation weren't enough, most recently they are equipped and directed by self appointed "super friends".

Fact, the last two invasions to over throw a government in Haiti were executed by the UN under USA command, 1994 and 2004.

There is no permanent Haitian electoral council, so far elections are orchestrated and paid for mainly by the international community...

Somewhere between both of our positions is the truth.
