RE: He already is a dictator
Michael Rowan // Cheers for Honduras
The folly of the OAS knows no bounds. Its highest priority in 2009 is to get Cuba readmitted as a member although Cuba does not want to be a member nor does the democratic charter of the OAS mean a thing if Cuba is admitted without becoming a democracy
From Our Print Edition
Remember when Chávez criticized the Organization of American States as a ridiculous organization? Unfortunately for Latin America, he was right, as recent charades in Honduras, Venezuela and Cuba most recently demonstrate. In Tegucigalpa, the OAS is outraged at the removal of an incumbent president by the Honduran military at the perfectly constitutional order of its legislature and judiciary. This legal act by constitutional Honduran powers the OAS called illegal, probably because of the old-fashioned way it was executed –the military put Zelaya on a plane in his pajamas, which was embarrassing. So the OAS suspended Honduras from membership, while the US suspended military aid and Venezuela suspended oil aid. So here's a first for you –the US, the OAS, Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua are on the same team for democracy and the rule of law! Wow!

Meanwhile, back in the Caracas headquarters of the OAS, a duly elected mayor was camped out in the foyer conducting a hunger strike, appealing to the OAS to speak out for the rule of law and democracy! The mayor –Antonio Ledezma– got weaker as the OAS refused to answer –its leader, Mr. Insulza was busy trying to help Zelaya and couldn't be bothered with Venezuela. And Chávez was threatening to invade Honduras militarily. But interestingly, Ledezma had a legal case and Zelaya did not. Ledezma is the duly elected mayor of Caracas who has been denied governance by violent thugs –he is the victim of the crime. Zelaya was prevented from running for president again by the legislature and judiciary of Honduras –he is the perpetrator of the crime. The OAS switched it around, kind of like they switch votes in Iran.

The folly of the OAS knows no bounds. Its highest priority in 2009 is to get Cuba readmitted as a member although Cuba does not want to be a member nor does the democratic charter of the OAS mean a thing if Cuba is admitted without becoming a democracy. The comedian Groucho Marx –no relation to Karl– once noted that he would not join a club that would stoop so low as to have him as a member. The OAS should take note.

RE: He already is a dictator
The thinking goes like this: the US has sponsored or aided and abetted coups in Latin America in the past in Central America and so our country must be behind the overthrow of Manuel Zelaya in Honduras. It is United Fruit in Guatemala in '54 all over again. The fools either can't even read a newspaper or are conspiratorialists who "know the real truth: behind the facade. My libertarian columnist friend just got back from Cuba and was describing his trip to me yesterday. He told me - something he and I have forever known - how poor Cuba is. There are infinite restrictions on enterprise, so the creativity and productivity of the Cuban people are stifled. He and his family stayed with a Cuban family and got lodging, food, and a countryside tour for a very modest amount, which was beneficial to my friend and, of course, also beneficial for the host family. You are correct about Hugo Chavez being the newest leftist icon for American radicals. I have a friend who is a left-liberal and he works with a guy who touts Chavez. I told him, look Mike, don't listen to your co-worker. Chavez is a power-hungry thug and a demagogue and he is implementing disastrous economic policies of a populist, inflationary sort that have a long pedigree in Latin America. The supreme irony is that there are those on the left who equated Walker Bush with Hitler but who tout Chavez and his power grabs.

A sad state of affairs

http://english.eluniversal.com/2009/07/30/en_pol_art_attorney-general:-t_30A2563803.shtml

Attorney General: "The State needs to regulate freedom of expression"
Country
Luisa Ortega Díaz, Venezuela's Attorney General, submitted to the plenary of the National Assembly a draft Special Law against Media Crimes, which would punish with imprisonment up to four years whoever breaks the law.

"It is necessary to legislate on this matter; it is necessary that the Venezuelan State regulates freedom of expression," she said.

The senior official added that her proposal is not aimed at violating the freedom of expression since. According to her, such freedom is observed in Venezuela. However, in the context of "our legal instruments, within the framework of the rights of Venezuelan people, everything has a limit. I request the State to put some limits to this right."

Ortega Díaz said that some people can commit criminal acts through the mass media and because of these "new forms of crime," the State has the obligation to prevent these offenses.

RE: He already is a dictator
I guess its' how you interpret the "Crime"

All "media crimes" to be punishable with prison sentences
Anyone giving an opinion on the media could face sanctions
Country
Not only the owners of TV stations such as Guillermo Zuloaga (Globovisión), Alberto Federico Ravell (Globovisión) and Marcel Granier (RCTV Internacional) could go to prison; anyone disclosing information regarded as "false" or "misleading" and that "would harm the interests of the State" or "the public morals" could be four years behind bars.

Under Article 5 of the draft Special Law against Media Crimes, which will be submitted on Thursday by Attorney General Luisa Ortega Díaz for the consideration of the National Assembly, "Any person who discloses false news through a mass media outlet, causing serious disruption to public tranquility, panic or anxiety in the population, disruption of public order or a prejudice to the interests of the State, shall be punished with imprisonment from two to four years."

The same punishment will be inflicted to persons who "manipulate or misrepresent news," "affecting social peace, national security, public order, mental health or public morals." The law drafted by the Attorney General consists of 17 sections. All the "crimes" defined in the bill: manipulation of news; refusal to disclose information; media coercion; knowingly failure to provide information; abetment, and obstruction of media activities are punishable with prison. The minimum penalty is six months and the maximum is four years.

RE: He already is a dictator
Socialism in action, Carabobo is a state with only 1.5 million people -do the math, not a very nice place to live; It is also the heart of industrial complexes, very heavy in union orginization and they are MEMBERS OF PSUV, the Socialist party of Venezuela.

RE: He already is a dictator
Yes, just aftere the Second World war and in the period 1970 in Europe a very real war is being fought between the vangaurd of the workers and reactionary forces of the right. In Europe the reactiionary right was largely defeated - social programs grew, right to housing, health care, education, right to work etc. and in these spheres are Europe leads the World and is being emulated by coutnries such as Thailand, China etc. Right wing neo-fascists in the USA oversaw huge unecessary poverty, drugs ,crime etc. and are now stirring trouble throughout South America. A friend of mine, by no means a radical, recounted to me the story of a an Ameican Heart surgon that had so much money that he had a one year trip on his luxury yacht - meanwhile his patients had undoubably sold their houses to pay for his operations and are deeply in debt. But his skills were based on the knowledge gained by countless dedicated individuals that had worked in gneral for the benefit of mankind - not intending this priceless knowldege to be auctioned to the highes bidder.
So these crazy posters need to have a rethink.

More people will die in the fight against the Nazis such as FD.
"
When they poured across the border
I was cautioned to surrender,
this I could not do;
I took my gun and vanished.
I have changed my name so often,
I've lost my wife and children
but I have many friends,
and some of them are with me.

An old woman gave us shelter,
kept us hidden in the garret,
then the soldiers came;
she died without a whisper.

There were three of us this morning
I'm the only one this evening
but I must go on;
the frontiers are my prison.

Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
through the graves the wind is blowing,
freedom soon will come;
then we'll come from the shadows.

Les Allemands e'taient chez moi, (The Germans were at my home)
ils me dirent, "Signe toi," (They said, "Sign yourself,"
mais je n'ai pas peur; (But I am not afraid)
j'ai repris mon arme. (I have retaken my weapon.)

J'ai change' cent fois de nom, (I have changed names a hundred times)
j'ai perdu femme et enfants (I have lost wife and children)
mais j'ai tant d'amis; (But I have so many friends)
j'ai la France entie`re. (I have all of France)

Un vieil homme dans un grenier (An old man, in an attic)
pour la nuit nous a cache', (Hid us for the night)
les Allemands l'ont pris; (The Germans captured him)
il est mort sans surprise. (He died without surprise.)

Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing,
through the graves the wind is blowing,
freedom soon will come;
then we'll come from the shadows.
