If you are in the Country for more than 3 month, your foreign Drivers License is not valid in the DR, regardless if it is a national or international or what ever expire date it has on it. We all know that either PN or Amet care to much about it, but; If you are involved in a Accident, YOUR INSURANCE WILL NOT PAY ONE CENT ! P E R I O D ! ! ! Your Dominican Counterpart (from the accident) does not have to look for a Lawyer, the Lawyers will find him and you will send all of their Kid's to Collage. Thanks for the info. Since I don't speak Spanish, this could be a problem. LOL 1. I notice there are no Driving Instruction comapnies here - and it is obvious! 2. Spanish - no problem - tip the guy at the DMV and he will not only interpret but tell you the right answers. You really should not talk for the sake of talking. Mr Cut and Paste . Your are incorrect. Driving schools do exist. Driving schools do exist????? Really. You would never know based on the driving of 99% of the DR people. Then you need to pass the Spanish reading test which you may or may not be able to negotiate your way through with some pesos and sometimes they want you to speak a little spanish also ..It depends where you go and I think it is a good idea to take a reputable Dominican with you. I have been driving here for about 5 years without a dominican licence but I normally leave and return every 3 months. Best to get correct info |

In Santo Domigo I hear they have tests in English but not in Santiago or Puerto Plata |

Is he planning on staying in the D.R.? If it's just for a visit, why not get an International driver's permit issued by AAA? It only costs $15 and it's valid in 150 countries, including the D.R.. All that is needed is a valid U.S. driver's license and 2 photos (passport type). |
