If you want to renew your first ID ("NO Vota" on the Back) that was issued to be valid for one year you should pay the same amount that you paid then. Renewing your "First ID" is exactly the same procedure like applying for the first one except that you don't have to supply all the documents again. The Medical examen and everything else has to be done again. If you are are "Citizen" you shouldn't pay a Cent, you really can renew your ID by yourself in less than a few hours. Anyway 1000$ is quite a lot. If you are interested, i know a very trustworthy Guy (not a Lawyer) who is doing this for years and he might charge you around 700$. Just let me know. |

However, there is the "Permiso Residencia" for foreigners and "Cedula de Idenditad" (for citizens and foreigners alike). I guess, the OP wants to renew the first of the two (needs to be done every two years). The fees for that are: Deposito de expedientes, (Renovacion): 2,500.00 RD$. Same day fee (VIP): +2,000 RD$ m'frog Edited on 4/17/2010 1:20 PM by mountainfrog. Everything goes its Caribbean way. www.dr101.info |

The difference is 300$ (?) not really a significant amount between what a professional and a para-professional might charge. Does the difference justify price? In my opinion, not really, but that is a subjective decision and each one should decide for himself it it is worth spending the extra money. If you have the financial resources but lack time, I would prefer to use a real "trustworthy" attorney that in the case of any complications, a legal representative would be familiar and readily available to help. A non-lawyer would most likely not be able to do the same and might even do a botched job. If money is an issue, I would attempt self-help. It will probably take longer, can be frustrating and stressful dealing with DR bureaucracy, but you will learn and gain valuable experience that will come in handy in the future. The key is to read carefully and ask a lot of questions and talk to alot of people. Remember haste makes waste. Edited on 5/13/2010 10:38 AM by guillermone. |

Hi, I'm a lawyer and we do that procedure. But the answer to your question is this: YES! you can definitely do it yourself. Specially if you speak some Spanish and know your way around. It shouldn't cost you more than 300 dollars (around 10,000 pesos or less) That is, of course, if you do it yourself. Regards, Arturo http://dafesaconsultores.com |

The mask finally comes off. I guess the beating you took on that other thread really hit you hard. That's what happens when you pretend to be who you're not. Let that be a lesson to you, pathetic, little racist person. |
