What is the process/cost to evict them? 1. I went through the process. I have a judgement of $5000 USD against the former tenant. We got him out and it took one year and cost $2000 in legal fees. I took that approach as I own a hotel. The German swine was renting a storage area for bottles as he runs the variety store next door called Severinos. His DR wfie owns the store and has a large family. If I took the second approach, or if I tried to collect the $5000, I would most likely be advised to leave the island. So we did it by the book. Note: we did nto eveict him from the primary residence, which is even harder. 2. Hire a couple of local toughs (include an off-duty cop if possible) and have them do the eviction after maybe one very serious warning. Whole thing should cost not more that $15,000 RD and be over in two weeks. Be prepared for repercusions. If they are family, why not use family preasure on them. relatives? Bottom line is we have relatives who we allowed to live there with the understanding they would pay rent. After two years, we went back to Santo Domingo expecting to find a bank account with 2 years of rent in it. Instead there was only nine months worth. We then wrote out a rental agreement which they signed. They paid somewhat faithfully for about five months, but then stopped. It's been almost a year with my husband trying to get them to move, but they have excuse after excuse. We spoke to a lawyer there, but he said it will now cost 30,000 RD to evict them. Any ideas? I have always been told que "el dinero no tiene amigos." Unfortunately you learned this the hard way, but even if they are family members you need to get on their case as soon as they miss the first payment. There are lawyers that are honest and you can use them to collect rent money for you. They will notify you immediately if a payment is missed. For now, tell them you are going to make major repairs to the home (roof, flooring, bath, etc.) and they obviously cannot be there during that time (although this might be a hard pull since they know you're trying to get them out). Don't ever let them back in once the "repairs" are done. |

So, you don't like what's happening in DR.... |
