Moderators say reader comments on news stories are higher risk than forums
Media sites which ask readers to comment on news stories are at greater risk of bearing responsibility for those comments than for comments in online forums or discussion groups, leading web moderators have warned.

Thats right. It's a matter of exposure. An article get's a lot more views than an forum post, so that increases the chance of a complaint. Another fact, is that if let's say DT makes an article about me, I'll want to read it and read the comments. If someone posts an article that says bad things about me, I'll want to take action.

Some people will just go and sue directly.

I read the article, the mediia is just scared of losing their grip on the information they decide to feed us. Despite the occassional fool that comments, there's a lot to be learned from the people's comments on stories because they can be familiar with some background info. that the journalist purposefully decided to omit.
