I want to open a woman's Boutique in DR , Can someone help?
Hello all,
I am thinking over a year now to open a Boutique in Dominican Republic ,so i went this summer to check things out.I found some malls i liked but i don't know if it is better to open it in a mall or separately.
I liked Santiago more than the capital but i don't know if it is a good move to open a boutique there , if people can afford it etc.
Can someone that knows tell me where it will be better to locate my business?

Also i would like some legal advice on the procedures that has to be done & the costs of the papers ,so that the company will be legal and without problems!

Thank you
Alex.

forget it. put the money in the bank at 3% interest and you will be better off. with all the rebranded, knock off stuff around today, they would run you ragged. you would be competing with locals who get their merchandise through customs without paying duties, while you pay through the nose, being a foreigner. there is a garment store on every corner. there is just not a large enough market to support such a venture, as 42% of the inhabitants of this gilded isle live below the poverty line. bad idea. come for vacation, keep your investment funds safe for some other country.

Alex, i am an investment project analyst by training. i do feasibility studies on major projects. this is child's play to me. i can tell you that it will fail, without putting pen to paper. the last guy who i know personally, decided to start a business, and i told him that i crunched the numbers, and that he would last 3 months. he ignored me, and, 2 months later, and half a million pesos, he closed the doors for good. this is not a country to place high on your list of places you would like to invest.

that is an answer i cannot give. i am not well travelled, and i have not lived in any country other than the USA which i would consider fertile ground for business ventures. i wish i could be of help, but, if i do not have basic knowledge, i cannot offer advice.

even this period you are saying that usa is fertile!??
My uncle lives in Florida and tells me that the market is dead...?!
What areas in the states would you suggest as more appropriate on opening my boutique ?
(**Dream is NYC but rentals are unapproachable**)

the market for clothes is always fertile. anywhere. i a not saying it is not good in the DR, as people will go hungry in order to buy clothes, cellphones, and go to the salon. it is just that you would not be on a level playing field. too many undesirable variables. and, no, the rents in the USA are prohibitive..only well established stores, which have been renting for many years, have a chance.
