If you are within 6 months of getting (applying for) residency you get somewhat of a tax break on autos (bigger break on household goods). Shipping a car besides the actually shipping costs will run about 26-30% of he value of he car in taxes. As an example i shipped a car (wiht out tax break) that had a value of $18000 USD. My tax bill was about $7000. This included the $2000 fee for the first registration of an imported car. My total cost was $9,000. The car also must be between 2-5 years of age and you must have owned it for 2 years. Hope this helps. BobK1 |

They often will still nail you on new appliances, electronics and TVs. So these when you add the tax burden may not be cheaper to ship in. BobK1 |

Things are more expensive here but the prices are coming down a little. Shipping can just be a hassle some times. We did however ship a full 40 foot container with our exoneration. BobK1 |

Send your car from NJ... When you buy in DR you don't know what you are buying... Its not that expensive to send. With the crook dealerships and high bank loan rates in DR, sending your paid car is much better. Make sure to converte it to run on propane. Gasoline costs too much in DR, you will see huge savings Edited on 9/16/2010 9:31 PM by xwill7. |
