6 months have passed since I applied for DR Cedula. I've hired the Dominican lawyer, Aquino De La Cruz from Puerto Plata. Than, filled the necessary applications and attached required documents. Drove to S.D. for the health test (passed); paid the lawyer 2/3 of the $1,500.00 installment, and that was it.
Two month ago, that was the last time I saw him. He's never in the office. He never answer my calls. His secretary knows nothing.
Please tell what to do. How to fight the crook. Appreciate any comment, advice. Thanks

Hi,

Bad news. You were probably a victim of fraud. The process takes usually around 3 months. Your lawyer should be always available and reachable to you.

Based on what you say, your file was probably never deposited. You need to get yourself another attorney and move on. As someone here said, pursuing will be both costly, long, unpleasant and worthless.

Unfortunately you'll probably have to come up with more money. If you still need assistance you can give us a call. We've been in business over 40 years, have our office in the business district in Santo Domingo. The key word here is 'accountability'. Never go to shady or lone working lawyers, specially not in DR.

Regards,
Arturo

Are you an attorney? Well I don't know, but I would be a bit wary to hire an attorney who loves the kitchen and wears a white appron. I mean you might smell like onions and garlic while in the court room and that is something that might be of a concern.

LOL!! I know! right?! "el fogoncito" and cooking is my hobby but what I studied was law. I'm also a professional interpreter. My areas of expertise are corporate, financial and constitutional law.

I do admit sometimes I prefer saying first I'm a traditional food chef or interpreter. Something about being a lawyer does not raise a lot of sympathy. I imagine it has to do with the kind of thing that happened to the person that opened this thread.

Sad. But I guess it is what it is.

He's Dominican and he's male. Of course he can't, and doesn't cook. Maybe he doesn't even know where the kitchen is! Anyway if that's his photo in the avatar then he looks good, and if he's got contacts too, that's all that matters in this country.

He is Dominican, a man and "he looks good" ? What do you mean by that and what kind of contacts are you talking about anyway ?

Are you planning on opening an Indian restaurant here? I hope so - I have not been able to find one. I would suggest opening in a tourist area on the north coast. Dominicans only like bland Dominican food, McDonald's an Pizza Hut.

RE: immigration
Hi,

We could help you with the process. Our website is:

http://dafesaconsultores.com

You'll need at least the following (If you decide to do it, we would explain in more detail):

1.-Main form.
2.-Passport copy.
3.-Medical tests.
4.-Pictures.
5.-Birth certificate (There is a process involved)
6.-Most documents will need to be translated and legalized (translation needs to be done by a Dominican licensed translator)
7.-If a couple, marriage certificate.
8.-Sponsor letter.
9.-Affidavit

There are also fees that need to be paid. Some are:

1.-Form fee.
2.-Medical test fee.
3.-Stay fee.
4.-Deposit fee.
5.-ID fee.

This is just a very summarized process, which is why it's always a good idea to have assistance. That does not mean you can't do it yourself, because you can. But it will save you a lot of hassle and very often money, to get assistance.

And just to save you time we charge a US$1500 fee. Plus the process expenses (500 US$) That means you will pay US$2000 for the whole process. Not one penny more.

The process takes around 3 months after final document deposit (It takes a few weeks from start of the process to final deposit) so a good idea is 4 months total.

In our website you can find contact information and references.
