Puerto Plata, DR "If i was representing the hotel or the people being attacked, trust me, it would be much more agressively and probably through legal means, seeing the diffamation done on this forum " Let me go out and buy boots so that I can shake in them.. "it does not bother me and i accept it. English is not my main language and sorry for the mistakes ! just odd that you would "attack" me on this....... " I did no such thing. I simply corrected you. My, aren't we sensitive high up in the Alps. "respect to you sir !" None to you swiss miss. The fact is that if anyone has been condescending on here it has been you in your vain attempt to point out to us who it is that is offending (in your miserly opinion) and waving aside one's firsthand knowledge of Dominican society. Comment on Swiss society and maybe you'll have something I can work with and take into account. Your comments and observations on Dominican society only fuel laughter in someone such as myself. |

Puerto Plata, DR It sounds like you are pursuing both criminal charges and civil damages. Is that the case? The DA shouldn't have anything to do with a lawsuit againt the hotel. He will only deal with criminal charges against the manager and security guard. Were your wife's injuries documented? She sustained those injuries from being forcibly walked to the door? (Which wouldn't explain water retention below the knee, so that's why I'm asking). Unfortunately, it appears the assault went both ways here, so it may be difficult to proceed with criminal charges (whether there is corruption or not). It seems as though the civil lawsuit is the way to go. I would have your attorney contact the head of VH Hotels & Resorts. They appointed Mr. Di Ciaccio (an Italian, by the way) as general manager of Casa Colonial. I'm sure they don't want the negative press to continue. Other than that, I would just continue to get your story out. Write a tripadvisor review. I know many people choose whether or not to book at a resort based on tripadvisor reviews. Don't forget to include breach of contract in your civil action. If your contract contained the "bad weather" clause, you should also be entitled to damages based on the hotel's breach of contract. |

For sure law enforcement in the DR could be better. The problem with the hotel manager could have happened anywhere else in the world though. You guys should sue the guys that are envolved in this, without harming the image of the whole region. It is an isolated event that could happen anywhere. Buenoha, You say that this is an event that could happen anywhere. I really can't accept that response. I travel to the DR 3-4 times a year. Love the country, but the more that I visit, the deeper you experience the problems related to economics! It's a poor country. $6000 dollars is a fortune to most dominicans. They are not going to freely hand it back to you. This is a incident strictly based on greed and sexism. Most police in this country are robbers with a badge! I don't know how many times I have been stopped by the police and all they want is money. I just play dumb and act like I don't know any spanish! The DR is beautiful, fun, exciting, and corrupt to the bone. The only other countries where this would take place are countries on the same economic level. |

I have experience that too in DR, my mother and grand mother are from there when they are often mistaken for American Diasporas until my nana speak to them in spanish. Indeed my mother is a Dominican Diaspora living in New York and when I go with her to DR, those police robbers always try to unjustifiably stop us because for one they often think we are all Haitian simply because we usually have some of our Haitian family members with us too in the vehicle. They often remain adamant at holding us unless or at times they silently drive us or themselves to the point of money and because when I speak spanish I speak it with an accent they often know we have Americans as well or that we are tied with someone who is a diaspora so they get more insistent. Sadly to say, Haiti is no safer either with this kidnapping issue now along with other little Countries with the same or lower economic level, you are right. If you feel so... why visiting that much our country?.... That is an isolated case if it wasn't.... The Dominican Republic wouldn't be known as the most welcoming Caribbean Island and who knows the friendliest in the world |

It seems some of the posts have been deleted? Fishy, fishy... |

Puerto Plata, DR jforcel, OK, so they actually hit your wife at the gate as well with the baton. That is outrageous. Have you had any updates on how everything is going? Any communication with the hotel? Have they located the manager yet? I noticed a previous post mentions the greed of the citizens of DR. The GM was an Italian. If you google him, you'll find that he has been employed at various hotels in Italy, and came to the DR because he was appointed GM of the Casa Colonial. Plus, it's much cheaper to just refund the money than defend a breach of contract action. I just got married a year ago, and wedding vendors try to get every penny they can from you, especially if they guess that you've got the money to pay. My guess is that the GM was hoping jforcel and his wife would drop the issue and walk away, but obviously they stood up for themselves. |
