Well not unless you can find a cockroach free room with blazing fast internet access close to a grocery store!

If you never been to DR then you should go to Bavaro... Then in a future trip you could try other towns.

Samana has alot of nice quiet areas. I plan on stopping by soon.

yeah right! you lying fool. you haven't been back to the DR in years. Why? Because simply put, you do not have the money to make the trip. You are among the thousands of Dominicans who live in poverty here in the United States. you can barely support yourself here, let alone go traveling to the DR. You are unemployed and dead broke and you know it.

As far as where the best area to visit. I think puerto plata is best place to go for a first time visitor. You may also find Santo Domingo to be a nice place to visit as well. If you traveling there anytime soon, give me buzz, i'll be there beginning Dec 24th thru the 1st week in January visiting family. Just send me a PM.

I found that the Puerto Plato area is not that nice and it is a harrowing bus ride frome the airport.
The south side is nice if you want the Caribean beach experience. All over the island they do treat the tourists nice, but I wouldn't go near Cabarete.

That is of course and unless you enjoy and are a wind surf enthusiast, otherwise not much else to do other then a day at the beach looking at people practicing the sport. Nevertheless, there is the next door and nearby town of Sosua, which was once a clean and had a beautiful and pristine horse shoe shape beach, but today in my opinion has down graded itself to a sleazy and cheesy little spot. But in spite of it all, it does have and retains many of its redeeming qualities. On a less crowded day the beach is serene and beautifull no matter what.

It you can keep going west you will reach Puerto Plata, it is about a half hour drive from Sosua. Many things to do in this tourist oriented city. However, please be advise, that Spanish language skills will come in handy and good driving skills required.

Maybe for a first trip to the DR it would be best if you just stay and visit an all-inclusive resort at either Punta Cana or Bavaro and then maybe later on you can venture off to other spots. For a more of a high end feel, you can head to the pricey but good value Casa de Campo in La Romana.

Another suggestion is to plan a trip and go with a native Dominican who likes to party, who knows the country well and is willing to show you around, preferably in a rental SUV but only after spending maybe 3 to 4 days at a beach front resort. After doing all that suning, eating and drinking you would definitely want to venture off and explore the country if time and economics allows. I would consider that to be a good option and the best alternative to take.

Troll are you upset? Why dont you lighten your tone down a bit and relax. Why dont you check the situation in your home state of illinois! They are having alot of problems that you could be helping your fellow residents out. Instead you would rather hang out on a website where you arent welcome and act as a wannabe Brasilean. Who in the world would want to go to Santo Domingo for a vist when it really offers little to nothing... Wannbe poser i rebuke you to the afterlife due to your bitterness that has eaten you alive like cancer. God bless the sanki that dumped and bankrupted you.
