Boca Chica
I am visiting Boca Chica for two weeks from Aug 29 to Sep 12. I am staying at the Oasis Hamaca. This is my first time to DR and I want some advice on what to do besides the obvious starting in Boca Chica and working my way out. Tell me anyting and everthing - the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to know it all because I like to get into the culture that I visit. Anything special going on in Santo Dmingo during these two weeks? Special parties, festivals, etc? If anyone responds from Boca Chica, than I have a lot of questions for him or her. Thanks.

Boca Chica is OK. And Hamaca is a GREAT Hotel.
You can enjoy Boca Chica all day and night long, i don't need to tell you 'You Must' be careful any where and every where, Boca Chica is not that Exception. With that said, don't worry be happy. You will get no troubles there.

Wish you enjoy your Vacation, Sto. Dgo. is just 20Min. away.

RE: Boca Chica
Boca Chica is acceptable-The hotel is excellent and the beach is very nice, yet I don't know if it is the best place to be as a first trip to the DR. Then again it all depends on what is your purpose and what you like and want to achieve. If you are looking for action and want to be close to the city and enjoy the historical aspects and cosmopolitan night life of Sto Dgo, such as gambling casinos, night clubs, world class restaurants and shopping, but at the same time be on a beach front location, then I guess Boca Chica would be a good choice. But outside of the hotel, Boca Chica is really not much of a place. If you get a chance to wonder out on your own into town, you will need to take the necessary precautions that you would in any other place. Stay away at night, unless you are very familiar with the where you are going. Don't walk around with cash and expensive jewelry. It is likely that you will come across those who will attempt to entice you into human decadence. What ever you are into be careful.

Then again you are asking for a subjective opinion from Dominicans. Your best bet is to speak with other Germans who have a perspective and commom interests similar to that of yourself, who have already been there and done that. Overall, your experience will most likely be good and enjoyable. Dominicans are the most likeable and approachable people you will ever meet.

Myself, I don't like big hotels and resorts, I prefer the smaller, more intimate quiet and relaxing beach atmosphere away from large droves of people. I don't like commercialization, the de-personalization and fast pace of cities and would rather be in a more relax rural atmosphere. I enjoy ecotourism, bird watching, nature hikes, white water rafting, going to farms, riding donkeys up a hill, camping on Pico-Duarte. To me this is what I prefer.

If you can give a better idea of what you are looking for then maybe one of us will be able to point you in a better direction.

RE: Boca Chica
Thank you for your response and taking the time out to write it. I did not know anything about my choice. Since I am a Marritt vacation club member, I selected the resort closest to Santo Domingo, so that I can experience DR. The resort was the only one. Most are in secluded locations away fr the people, etc. I just lost my wife so this is my first vacation without her. I wanted to pck an Island we never visited. I haven't dated but I am not opposed to meeting someone but I do't think it will be in DR since I don't speak Spanish. I do dance the merengue and bachatta so I hope to dance every night, preferably with somone, preferably a beautiful, sensual women. We wil see. What are the best dance places and live music places that I can enjoy in Boca and anto Domingo?
