SANTO DOMINGO. - The director of the Dominican Man Museum said that that institution lacks spaces to exhibit the body of the actor Nelson de la Rosa -who is in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s smallest man- and for that reason suggested that his relatives build a private museum.

Carlos Hernandez feels that they can erect their own museum, to exhibit, in addition to his body, his belongings, mentioning among them his lavish garments, footwear, hats, glasses, and the costumes he wore in the several films he acted in, and the circus performances.

"This museum is not for that, rather, its objective is to conduct anthropological and archaeological research on the natives who populated the island and to exhibit objects of the Dominican culture," he said.

He said that according to the Museum’s mission, it’s not advisable to exhibit de la Rosa’s corpse in this museum, though recognizing that this would increase the daily visits.

Hernandez stressed emphasized that to exhibit a human body it’s necessary to create a space with special conditions of temperature, and the Museum doesn’t have it.

The professional said that the construction or conditioning of a museum to exhibit the corpse of a person entails a very high sum of money. "Our museums do not have a capacity for this type of exhibits, but in the United States and other nations of the world there are museums where these exhibitions are done," he added.

Why would they want to show a corpse in a museum? That's just plain weird. But not only this, why would they want to spend money erecting a new museum just to show this guy's corpse and belongings?

Ahhh, the things Dominicans do...

English philosopher and jurist Jeremy Bentham's mummy is sitting proudly and smiling in the British Museum (UCL) with his outstretched hand resting on his walking stick. Parts of him are also on display elsewhere. All at his request. His friends attended his dissection and preservation in 1832, again, at his request. Weird? Yeah, but one of the smartest men in English history.

A person's corpse should just be laid to rest. I think perhaps a clone of Nelson de la Rosa could be made just like the one's in the Wax Musuem in New York City. His belongings could be displayed to the public next to wax figure of himself.

This is just my opinion.

His body does not belong in a museum of any type.
If his family wants him to be remembered, they should come up with the ideas. And whatever they decide to do, must be accepted. However, they should pay for any expenses incurred.

If Nelson agreed to have his body exhibited in a museum then I don't think it is of public opinion to decide whether or not it should be displayed. If there is a sponsor who is willing to fund this project, I am sure there will be curious minds willing to see this extraordinarily small man. For those who think it's grotesque or just plain bizarre well they have the option of not going to see. I personally don't think it is as bizarre but it doesn't interest me to go see him either.

I think that in all due respect to him his body he should be buried.
If they want him in a museum make a wax figure of him.
In life he was labled a freak when he was as human as me and you let the man rest in peace. Take into consideration what how his son would feel about it.
