SANTO DOMINGO.- The Justice Ministry’s People Trafficking Department  director said yesterday that it investigates several tour operators accused of organizing group trips to Europe, the Middle East and South America, but who return to the country alone.

Frank Soto said that several people in this case have been interrogated and expects to receive more information from other countries which have promised to collaborate with the investigation.

He stated that in the last months several trips have left from Dominican Republic for Israel and The Vatican, in Italy, but a large part of the tour’s members don’t return. However, the judicial official did not want to reveal the names o the tour operators or representatives of the companies which organize trips that have been subpoenaed, to prevent jeopardizing the probe, he said.

He added that two other people, fugitives from justice, are in Turkey and Peru.

In another topic, Azua province Instruction court judge Maria  Socorro Perez  ordered restrictive measures against five people accused of trafficking human beings and leaving several people in Turkey.
