SANTO DOMINGO. - National Police chief Bernardo Santana ordered all its agents who are at the service of individuals or private companies to return to the police work or otherwise will be fired.
The Police chief met this Friday with the senior staff, regional commanders and other officers, to orient them on the adopted policies recently by president Leonel Fernandez, to expand the government’s citizen security programs.
Santana gave orders for all agents to report to their superiors, a measure aimed at allowing Police can guarantee peace and security for the population.
"I want to reiterate this warning, all agents who are exerting non-police work must return to their jobs or otherwise as of next week they will be fired. We have the mechanisms to detect it." he said.
In the next hours the Police Council, presided by Minister of Interior and Police, and Justice Minister and the Chief of Police will meet to discuss to mechanisms and strategies to cleanup the police force, in order to keep agents who have been fired for misconduct from returning.
It has been a custom that many Dominican Police agents abandon their duties to work privately, despite continuing to be paid by the Government


What a shame that it sounds like things there have not really changed.
I agreed with you. This is old news. I don’t care who’s in charge of the National Police or any government organizations in the DR, no one is going to change the why senior officials’ do business in DR. Because they only care about themselves and the kick back money, they get for looking the other way. The only one that can end this practices is the President, by selecting staffs that have the capacity and high moral standers to perform the task and most importance of all, to care for its citizens and the country. However, these wells never happen with this president or future one.
