SANTO DOMINGO.- The Corruption Prevention Department (Depreco) will file charges today against 2 Dominican Air Force retired colonels, implicated in the disappearance of 2 jet turbines, sold in Miami.

Retired colonels Edito Méndez Casasnova and Luis Benito Peralta Vásquez will face charges in a Santo Domingo Court, after the results of an investigation conducted by Depreco.

Depreco’s investigation found that ex–Air Force chief Virgilio Sierra Pérez is not responsible for the missing turbines, which disappeared alter they were sent to Miami for repairs.

Depreco’s case is based on a report from Armed Forces Intelligence, whose

Investigators traveled to Miami to determine why the shop were the turbines were repaired sold them for US$300,000 to the Colombian Army.

The officers suspended from the Dominican Air Force -accused of irregularities in the turbines’ disappearance- would be the first military officials to be indicted, with the exception of retired general Manuel Antonio Cuervo Gómez, who was convicted for graft and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
