SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican authorities have seized in the last 30 days over two and a half tons (some 2,550 kilos) of cocaine, 48.7 of heroin, 15 of crack, 119 pounds of marijuana and 20,231 tablets of éxtasis, with more than 100 people arrested and processed.
National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) president Rafael Ramirez revealed that in the first month as head of that entity also confiscated were vehicles, money in cash - in pesos and dollars- guns, and 3 Dominican fugitives were extradited to the United States.
DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebró said that of the 228.8 kilos of cocaine confiscated in that period, 55.6 were seized in the last week of August, whereas 2,.423.2 kilos so far in September and includes the 2,250 kilos uncovered on Monday in the Caucedo Multimodal Port, jointly with Customs agents.
The arrests and drug seizures were the result of786 operations in sectors of the Capital, Santo Domingo province, towns of the interior, as well as in different airports.
More than 95 Dominicans are among the detainees, as well as five foreigners, including two Dutch, an American and 2 Italians.
