Santo Domingo.- The United States Embassy press attaché David Searby says that the Peace Corps volunteers in the Dominican Republic have been working in rescue operations in the south western provinces of Barahona, Bahoruco and Independencia, ten of whom are supporting the work of World Vision, Plan International and FUNDASUR.

A further 15 volunteers are working with USAID in the capital to ensure that emergency supplies reach the areas with greatest needs.

Searby said that the PC volunteers in San José de Ocoa, Peravia, Sanchez Ramírez and Duarte were supporting local efforts to help the victims and to assess risks and hazards such as diseases.

Over the weekend a U.S. C-130 plane landed at San Isidro airport bringing humanitarian relief supplies.
