SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominicans by the hundreds who return home for the holidays from different countries say they are happy for the way the Customs authorities treats them, and for the tax breaks on home appliances they bring as gifts.
Interviewed by the newspaper El Nuevo Diario, the “absent” Dominicans say that after as much as 15 years since leaving their country, they acknowledge things have changed, and that the country is more organized.
They say upon their arrival in the Las Americas Airport’s terminal, the first thing Customs inspectors did was to welcome them to their country, and asked in a friendly manner, what type of articles they bring, to not apply the customs tax.
The merengue singer Milly Quezada also said the Customs inspectors were cooperating, because they understand that all Dominicans who arrive in their country are anxious to get home.

I'm planning on going to NY next year with my camera (it's a semi-pro, quite big). Did you have any bad experiences with the guys at the airport messing with your stuff?
