President Fernandez during a tour of affected areas yesterday.

SANTIAGO.- The Government concentrates its effort in the towns of the northern Cibao region affected by the storms Noel and Olga.

Yesterday was the fourth consecutive day in which president Leonel Fernandez visited the zone and will head the Cabinet meeting  in this city today, where 10,000  rations of food consisting of three ready-meals are distributed every day to the more than 2,000 families in the shelters, as well as mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets and medical assistance.

The Head of State pledged the construction of 600 houses, whereas Santiago governor Jose Izquierdo said a census is being taken to determine how many of those in the shelters need government assistance, to prevent “infiltrated” people from benefiting from the calamity. "In La Barranquita there were only 300 people and there are already 600, because they have come even from the South."

George Orwell is alive and well in the PLD. Now refugees from their criminal act are called "infiltrators." They can not accurately count the dead but they are certain people are making up their need for assistance.

Since the make up statistics, numbers and lie they think everyone else does. How insensitive can they be!

This scenario is like the assistance given to theflood victims in Monticristi in 2003 when the shelters were set up in Manzanillo to house and feed those displaced by the Yaque del Norte overflowing it's banks in Monticristi.
The people were fed and clothed alright, but in theprocess, half of the people in Manzanillo were also. There was absolutely no effort made to define who exactly was to be the recipient of thegovernment assistance.
Evidently, the same thing is happening in thearea cited and elsewhere.
Again, incompetent appointees running the show resulting in excessive aid being handed out and costing even more.

It is just the need for a FronPage article complete with smiling Politicans
and only that is the effort they made, others are working their a%%es off,
Like i noted before, this govcerment is only on the P.R. for re-elections and personal gains (you can call that justified corruption)
Other things, like really sweating and worrieng about the people who really need help, was rapidly forgotten last weekend during his pesonal reliefcampain in his presidential house in juan Dolio.
Off course you cannot expect that the goverment "works" during the weekends ...

Perhaps experience creates the most ardent cynics, but at times cynicism simply becomes a dangerous and self-fulfilling prophecy. If the flood victims are being feed, is it really an important issue if a few others get feed as well. All this food is donated by foreign governments and charities, and these organizations understand that a portion of the food will be utilyzed by some who are not the intended recipients, but are in need of food just the same. As long as wholesale looting is not not taking place, as it has in some other locations, such as Somolia, the food is being put to good use. This is not a free lunch at the Ritz. These packets of food are the same MRE (Meals ready to eat) distributed to US military personnel. These MRE are produced for pennies apiece, and tons of them are thrown away every year because the expiration date has expired. With this in mind, who really cares if a few extra people get fed?
