SANTO DOMINGO.- The National District Appellate Court’s 2nd Penal Chamber yesterday struck down the Fourth Instruction Court’s order to release Juan Carlos Genao Dorrejo, and maintains the convicted smuggler under preventive prison.

Genao remains under a 3-month preventive prison in the jail at La Victoria after the Customs Agency filed charges against him for trying to smuggle 250,000 dollars out of the country, as the Law limits the undeclared amount to 10,000 dollars.

Customs said Genao has been convicted of contraband twice, including tax evasion on imported merchandise.
