Santiago de los Caballeros.- Despite the ban on firework sales in the Dominican Republic this Christmas, three children have suffered burns after handling pyrotechnic devices.
The victims are Adely Toribio, 12, from La Ciénega; Julio Daniel Luna, 11 años, from Baracoa, and Wilma Polanco, 11, who lives in the Simón Bolívar area.
The children were taken to the burn unit at Arturo Grullón children’s hospital with first and second degree burns.
In a separate incident, the police destroyed two container-loads of fireworks in the La Vega area. The fireworks were going to be sold illegally, for use during the holiday season.
